I have to agree with peter there, the whole project is not for the faint hearted!!! I have stalled with mine due to lack of time and money but everything is planned out ready for the next cash injection.

This conversion doesnt scare me that much. i am just thinking of way to make it better for oil drain system. as i have some idea myself but i dont know if they works but in the theory, they _should_ work.

the oil drain is the simplest problem, there are lots of options, which ever you choice you will need a tig welder to weld a pipe to the head.

so what ideas do you have then?? there are some many options, you could always let the oil fall down the old push rod holes as it was in the a series. On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

the standard cylinder head drain hole. cut that out, and weld a box section across the bottom of bmw k cylinder head, and leave out the drain holes (push rod holes) open. using new box section cover this area.

I went for the drain down to the fuel pump blanking plate - from the underside of the head and the front "dry" cover as well - works well apart from its fiddly to install when engines in. Filling of the oil through the breather on top of transfer casing - easy!

Oh!!! & it might pay to drill some small holes down low in through a few of the camshaft bearing carriers, some of them hold oil for so long that even over night there`s still a whole heap of oil sitting in the wells between cam carrier caps, & when you take the cover off to "play" with cam timing etc, all this oil stuff p!$$es out all over the engine Edited by MadMatt on 24th Jul, 2006. www.miniman.com.au

Cooper S blocks are hard to come by, rather expensive too

The one i`ve used in the pics is an early Australian clubman GT block, basically the same as a MK2 "S" block (except with GT eng number of course) but is probly even rarer than the "S" block as there were very few "side plate" type early GTs produced,,, shame really hey? But they are a far better breathing & oil draining block, so i did what i thought would be better for the intended purpose, i do have another one that matches the body number of my Gt tho www.miniman.com.au

34mm inlets and 30mm exh - but I'll bet the ports flow a lot more air than an iron 5 port with 36*31 sizes.
