Tom, you should be able to get a kit to make your own step down transformer to do this.

Ric, yes I know you can't regulate amps/wattage, I just need something that is rated to supply that power/current!

You cant use a step down transformer on DC ( a battery).

Just use ohms law to find out what size resistor you need. |

Just use ohms law to find out what size resistor you need. not the best idea as the load of the device may change, and if at one point it takes significantly less current then it did when you made the ohms law calulation then itll see more volts than it can handle and will damage it. a proper solid state regulator is whats needed. plenty are variable and there datasheets provide good enough diagrams to knock up a useable curcuit. sorry i cant help further, cant think of any off the top of my head and dont have the time to search right now. :( :( turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

You just need to Zener the voltage. Either use a voltage regulator like Alex said, or build it up with discretes on a piece of variboard.

MAke sure you heatsink the regulator Any pointers on where to start with this?! I am handy enough with a soldering iron but what circuit should I be making!

Simple way is using an LM338K device. Similar to the LM317 device Andimini shows, the 338 is just higher power. Should be easily available from maplin. Its a standalone voltage regulator which just needs 2 resistors to select the desired voltage.
