as above really. over the winter ill be tubbing my rear arches so ill need quite big arches to cover them im thinking about putting me clubby on 13 inch deep dish minilights as i rekn they just look right on clubbys. but i dont want to spend loads of money on a set and find out it were a mistake.
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

There are two reasons why I will be converting to 10s over the winter:

i have 10's becuase ive always wanted them, however i personally prefer clubmans with 13's, possibly something like a 13x6 would be good in my opinion |

I run 6X12's with 165/55 R12 - Yokohama A048 on my Clubman and IMO they look the right size for the car, and are just big enough for the calipers i have used.

I well setup 13" wheeled car will be as fast as anything. However, a 10" wheeled car will be much more nippy, and forgiving. It's easier do drive fast with 10" wheels, as they warn you a bit before you "go". I'm all 10" wheels, don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate to drive a 13" wheeled Mini. However, a 13" car with a 1380 is not slower than a 998 with 10" because of the wheels. Also, there are different types of 10" wheels. A standard 75 850 with 3,5X10 wheels and 145R10 tyers will be a bit slower than a slick shot Miglia. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

I have zero experiance of 10s. What I would say is that it took a long time to get our car to work with 13s, but it does. The reason I stuck it in the wall was that the car was working so well that I was really pushing the limits.

I think the problem is that people stick 13s on and don't do enough to the suspension setup to get them to work, but it can be done. I cant agree with that more, its all to do with settings, springs and dampers. You dont have to change the fundamentals to get it to work. There are, as the above case shows, examples of working configurations using 13" wheels. Dan webster', posts occasionally on finity, car is a good example of this using an optimised suspension setup with 13" wheels. I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Have had a little experience with 10's 12's and 13's, on three different minis, all with standard set ups, one mini being my own and two others being friends. The mini with the 10's was an 850cc, had sod all ponies under the bonnet but around town my friend always had the edge on handling over me with my 12's (didnt help that the driver was a nutter!!), another friend was running 13's which I found after drivin it ( and also following him) to be quite unforgiving, being more easy to switch ends (appreciate tire choice is a big factor, etc) when I rebuilt my mini in '04 I fitted a fully adjustable setup all round, I have also spent numerous hours fettling to find the setting to suit me, and my driving, and to be honest I find the setup spot on on 12's with yoko A539's. I THINK 12'S ARE A GOOD COMPROMISE! My turbo build that I'm now undertaking I want to put on 10's as it is going to be mk1 track racer themed. I am now very interested to find out how it will behave. |

just thought id throw this in .. most people run 175/50/13's on 7" wide rims. there stretched, and the tyres become stiff and unforgiving, i moved over to 195/45/13's and instantly the car felt like it had some "give" in the sidewall, less tramlining and more forgiving, i can only put it down to the fact that the skinny 175's are far to thin for the rims most people run them on. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
