Nasty, hope it heals alrite. I managed to drill through the palm of my hand with a 3mm drill. The worst part of it was reversing the drill to get it out!!!!

Always be sure to use personal protective equipment!!

OH! fook....... hoggy

sorry about that buddy

some sound advice as i have had many injurys over the years (trust me!)

keep it coverd in SAVALON antiseptic CREAM!!! FOR THE FIRST 2 WEEKS

apply 3 to 4 times a day with clean hands
also once aday there after for a month or so
this will speed the healing and the scar wont be half as bad

also ibuprofen taken a few times a day reduces imflamation and swelling

Oooooh, nasty!

But, on the other hand - quite lucky...

Dunno if you smoke, or drink - but when i burnt all the skin off my hand I was advise to reduce my weekely alcohol consumption, stop smoking, and to eat fruit for the vitamins.

Instead, I went to extremes!
I quit the ale (I don't smoke though), and invested in those 'one a day' vitamins; and took two per day!!!
Also ate tons of apples and bananas, drank loads of water (like 4pints per day)- and just three weeks later, had a covering of (admittedly very thin) skin over the whole of my hand.

The several nurses that treated me all commented (seperately) how it was absolutely amazing how quick I healed - to the point of the A&E burns doctor that first treated me on the day asked to meet with me and ended up taking pictures of my hand, along with taking details of everything I did to aid the healling...

I'm pretty sure it all makes a significant difference...

feel for you mate.
hope it heals up ok for you.
my mate got shot on the nose with a nail gun on a site i was working on once!
he was lucky as it could of been his eye, and the fact that the nail spins in the air so it was the head of it that hit him, rather than the point, which could of pierced his nose!! it was still messy.
not sure weather there is any ppe that would of prevented your injures though mate.

stowmaket suffolk

well it to tell the truth i didnt hurt thats how i knew it was bad.

blood spurting every were, when i got to the hospital the bleeding had stop until the doctor opened it up and she got sprayed buy nice suffolk claret all down her top. but buy god was she rough and the local anithestic didnt half sting.

i nearly had to go to addenbrooks to go to the plastics dept as the doctor didnt want to give me a scar lol.

i was more relived that i could still see, hear and open my gob a nice scar was the least of my worries.

buy the way i replace my claret with some nice italian chianti reserve so that should do the job.

and yes hopefully wont stop me fishing tonight for a few hours.

its a bit swollen but i think i will be ok.

it just happened so quick, ive used angle grinders for years and have had the odd scrap but not like this. in some ways im glad i used a metal cutting disc and not a abrasive one as that would have made a mess

i think we have antiseptic crea which i will put on .

i aint no oil painting before and i certainly aint one now.

just look like a drugs barron from london now instead of a dodgy gezzer from suffolk.lol

Sorry to hear bout the accident mate, i dont really want to go against the docs here but you really shouldnt use antiseptic creams any more! I mean im no doc myself but i do work within the ambulance service and antiseptic creams have been banned within 90% of first aid kits now!

A welding mask may have prevented it? I have a spare one with a clear glass in it for those times when you need to grind up side down. just a thought.

it may b small but it purfectly formed

Nasty! hope it heals good for you!

also be carefull with ibubrofen if you have bleeding wounds. As it will thin out you blood and make it bleed MUCH worse. I cut the tip of my thumb of in a fan. I took a 400 mg one when it happened and was bleeding for 6 hours. I guess your wound doesnt bleed, but good information nevertheless. It was confirmed by the doc too.

Nasty! Hope you heal ok.

I've used savlon antiseptic cream on a few recent cuts on my hand and think it did heal better / quicker than usually.
As for ppe, well i've been on a few training courses recently, confined spaces and water hygiene were the main two, but what they had in common was the message that ppe is your last line of defence, if you can, eliminate / reduce the risk in the first place, something that tbh i've never really thought about in the context of working on cars...maybe we should!

For ppe in this case. this is all i can think of?

blimey, sorry to hear this,

still could have been a lot worse, anything with loss of eyes or teeth makes me feel sick.

althogh its quite deep the cut looks like it quite clean so that should minimse the scaring ( i guess they sliced a bit out to get clean edges?)

I had a grinder fip on me a few yeas back, i was cutting up a rear subframe and the grinder caught, fliped over takin a chunk out of the back of my hand by my thumb, then caught me 2/3 from the inside top of my thigh and proceeded up my leg toward my nuts,

luckly my jeans stalled the grinder before it got there and i managed to switch it off.

For a few moments I honestly thoght i'd cut my cock off!!

Anyway the point is althogh what i had was only very deep grazes and not cuts, the small one on the back of my hand scared a bit (nothing that noticable) but the 4" long on on my leg didn't scar at all, there's not even a mark, dunno why! the only thing i can think of is not having much sunlight on it helped.

Well hope it heals well!!

Joe.
