Basically what's the top speed that you're likely to reach going round Combe in a Mini? I realise that the actual speed will depend on a lot of factors but I'm only after a ball park.

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to work out the final drive ratio for my next project, which is going to be primarily for track use, so my current plan is to work out the top speed and work back from there.

EDIT: Fixed embarrassing spelling mistake

There's only one "o" in the Combe of Castle Combe!

Apart from that it depends on the power of the mini in question, at higher speeds aerodynamics of a mini become a limiting factor quickly.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i was in a 911 on the limiter at about 145 round there!

i'm guessing as long as your mini will pull it you'll about hit it.

I'd guess 120ish?

My 205 weighing 825kg with 170 bananas pulled an indicated 125mph when I was being brave over avon rise, probably about 115-120ish when the speedo accuracy is considered.

Ask JF .... his car looked like it was travelling in the footage I saw.

I have seen 110 in the 1380 (Racheal) and 175 in my mates Ultima

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

120 in my BINI GP in the wet

115 in the bmw e34 540 in the dry (Iain or Dan will remember!)

Gear it to about 120mph and you'll go well on track *happy*

It's cool, I think I've become over dependant on the spell check built in to Firefox.

So with a Turbo A Series we're looking at 6K red line (I know there are a few people on this site that are looking at high revving turbo engines but I don't have the skills or knowledge to go down that route) so to get a top speed of 120 I'm looking at a 2.95 final drive. Does that sound right?

Probably ......

Remind me of your e-mail ... I've a ratio chart that might interest you, includes accelerative effort.

i'd say you could pull a min of 6.5k and more likely 7k still with decent power.

I'll tell you friday!! *wink*

110 through folly , depends how well you take camp ( aka alexf ) , 125 in a mini .. mmmm well it is poss , but you`d need to carry some speed to get up to that , plus avon will be coming up at pretty quick

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

why do people think that a turbo mini has a max rpm of 6,000 or 6,500? the standard bottom end can take more like 8,000rpm but to be safe and as power drops off i restrict mine to 7000rpm.

around cooombe ive run out of revs with a 3.2 final drive and 10" wheels.

i thought a turbo lump or a 1275 would not rev alot more than 6500rpm as its a long stroke engine!
a 998 on the other hand revs love to rev high!
so whats the secret with reving it over 6500rpm then?? just get everything lightend and balanced or what?

acording to my gear ratio calculator, a 3.1 on 10" wheels in top (4th) could do 119mph at 6500rpm, does that sound right?

cheers

My engine in its previous life (N/A) used to rev to 8k went well off the clock at 8k. (998 speedo) Lol

A mate following said it was 120mph.

That was on 10's 3.2 diff.

i can easily hit the limiter at 7,000 rpm in 4th with 10" wheels and a 3.2 diff. its so easy that i recon i could still hit the limiter with a 2.9diff with out any problems

going back to the point of the thread , combe is not very long so if you are geared for say .. 135 its not long enought to reach it .

Your calcs are slightly out Ben, 6500 rpm in top on a 2.95 diff with 175.50.13 tyres equates to 125.9mph.
