I got the quote back from my supplier and waited a week or so before ringing him up to ask for the real quote!!!

Looks like around £5 litre is the best your going to get ..... If I can improve on that I'll let you all know.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

its semi synthetic so imho essential for turbo running bar a fully synthetic 20/50

its specifically made for transverse engines but cant remember whats different about it

CTV is not only specifically designed for transvers engines, it is specifically designed for transverse engines with the gearbox in the sum, i.e. A series in a Mini. Basically it is much better for the gears, but probably not better than any other semi synthetic in the engine, imo. Read all about it on the website.

I have to say it is very good. We have used it for a few years in the TT2, but it is just too expensive for me now.

From the website:

Description
* Very high performance semi-synthetic competition engine oil for transverse engines which have their transmission in the sump.
* Extra high performance engine oil based on the highest quality performance additives and shear stable viscosity improvers in synthetic and mineral base.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Application
* Competition use on vehicles where the transmission is in the sump.
* Especially suitable where a limited slip differential is used.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

User Benefits
* The semi-synthetic base fluid formulation and special additive system provides maximum engine protection along with transmission performance to API GL4 level. The normal performance level demanded for gearboxes.
* Also suitable for conventional engines which have heavily loaded skew gears, often due to running high oil pressure.
* The incorporation of synthetics means the lubricant has flow rates close to many 15W grades, helping to reduce drag and increase power output without any detrimental effect on centre main bearings.
* Viscometrics reduce oil consumption, making this oil suitable for long distance racing.
* CTV has similar formulation to CSS 20W-50 with a viscosity at the top limit of an SAE 50 ensuring oil pressure will be maintained under arduous conditions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Performance Profile
* All competition and highly tuned mini derivatives.
* Provides performance that exceeds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Viscosity / Typical Characteristics
Viscosity grade 20W-50
Viscosity @ 100oC, cSt 20.5 [typical]
Density @ 15oC 0.885

We have just been using a good20/50 semi synthetic. Halfords do an ok one. TBH the oil is in there for such a short period, typically less then 500 miles, that it is not a problem.
