i went out to the mini today because ive finished my garage. Its stored in a garage which isnt too damp really. everythings been fine on i, but about 2 or 3 weeks ago i fitted a back seat that i retrimmed from another car. The other car had mould in it though, but i cleaned all the back seat material with soap and water and it looked clean like new. Since putting it in, and leaving it for the few weeks its had the window open just slightly, the mould has come back, and has taken over the inside of my car :(

everything was covered in fluff! the seatbelts, carpet, speaker boxes everything! it was that bad that when i opened the door you could see the spawns of the mould fly out.

ive taken everything out today, hoovered everything and used 2 bottles of antibacterial dettol spray its the only thing icould get it says it kills 99.9% of germs.

i just hope it doesnt come back!!! whats the best way to store my mini now? Should i have the windows open to let air in or have them closed?

I put an ice cream tub full of salt in my car (with a holey lid) and it has helped a bit. The roof lining is a little mouldy but the glass doesn't mist up like it used to anymore. Plus it's cheap!

your best bet is to leave the windows open also try the salt in a box or better still try and get some silica gel bags a put them in that will get rid of the damp!

You'll e fighting a loosing battle by cleaning it ad not getting it completely dry inside first.

Salt crystals are supposed to be good as mentioned above. If its sunny and dry over the weekend take it for a drive with the heater on and leave it in the sun with the windows open.

I had a mould problem. Once the car was dry I used some fungicide dad has for his plants. I tested it on a hidden section first then just sprayed it on all the mould, end of problem.

can i be that knob that tries to point out the obvious answer ?

mould is a spore, a living thing, you must disinfect the seat, soak it in the disinfectant (get the non oderous stuff.... antibac soap wont be enough) and let it dry indoors out of the car. when dry hoover the shit out of it. If you just rinse it, the spores will just keep coming back dude. when u park the car in the garage leave the windows open a crack. problem solved.

problem you will have is the spores will be all over the car. if it were my pride and joy i would have ure carpets out and jet wash em, sterilise em, then let em dry indoors. u can use Milton for this as it is a sterilising agent, but check it on a non visible bit first to be sure.
ure seatbelts.....pull em right out and get a baby wipe in ure hand and wipe over the full belt. baby wipes are mint !!
the salt is a good idea, as long as it dont tip over *wink*

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

As MFT says.

I am plagued with this as there is some form of fungus that lives in the hedges we have to have in my area ..... never had a mould problem before and now I am fighting a loosing battle!!!

The only thing that works is pulling out all the plush stuff and cleaning it with in an inch of it's life.

Store with salt in a box as mentioned and if it's going to be there a while give everything a spray down with a anti-fungicidal agent.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Ha ha ha ha! No I laughed at that. Someone I knew once was called Mike Mould (it was spelt different but pronounced the same), he was a fungi.

Near Daventry, midlands

my local cash and carry does packets of silica gel, but its not cheap though unlike the salt idea. Might be worth a look locally if all else fails.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

must resist argument lmao !!! Steve i have to disagree with ya ref the windows bud.... when i had the lotus, i had to leave the windows down to allow the air to circulate through the car, otherwise the damp air trapped inside stagnates and creates spores good buddy, mind windows down in the wettest garage in the world is no good ! however in ure garage steve this would be perfect :):):) this is just my own opinion, and past experience i never used the salt trick so maybe windows up n shed loads of salt has the same effect.
