From what I have seen Morespeed engines are quite good.

For a head you might find it worth while to contact Benross on here. His heads seem to be well regarded by all and I'm sure he will work out better price wise too.

Apparently the personal service is awesome ..... just make sure you collect it as bacon doesn't travel well.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

My 1380 done at morspeed and its a mega bit of kit. Basicly you get MED quilty but for less money. But has been said you mite need to wait. Best think to go is set a date you want it fineshed by then tell them that it needs to be done 2 weeks before that date and the closer the time gets phone more offtern. He does good work on the rolling road to.

mines a morspeed engine too. but yeah he is very very busy and even with a deadline it slips. i just had to keeping ringing to get it out the door. then turned up whilst he was finishing it off in front of me.

seems to be good so far from the roller results!

I wouldnt buy a head from him as they dont flow too well. One of his full race n/a heads showed 14 bananas less than Swiftune full race head, They were both similar money.
Swifty every time.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I have no idea of this, but does Swifty at all have any experience on turbos?
Jon is running a Morspeed head, and that does indeed deliver the goods flowbench proven or not...

It has to be said that I have heard compleatly the opposite. And TBH there is probably little difference in the real world. I would happily buy heads off both of them, but the heads I have experiance of from Morspeed are definately cheaper than an equivelent swiftune head.

Nic makes a very good point there. IMHO you can't go far wrong with an engine by Morespeed, Vmax Scart, Swiftune or MED. All of them have built race winning engines and all of them have there own strengths and weaknesses.

On the other hand the secret of an A series is the head (as it is with most engines) and the bottom end is pretty much a known science. With that in mind, if your building the engine yourself, get the bottom end from the company that gives you the best value (not necessarily the same as cheapest) and get a head from whoever does what you want, in the time scales you want it for the price your happy with.

That of course means you have to consider the work of Benross for the head.

I like him as he's local, i'm sure if any of the others were local thats where i would go as it makes a lot of difference to be able to go and chat face to face about what you want. plus he had a 2nd hand challenge engine i wanted *wink*

my next engine will be built at MBE with a lot of help from me!

he's another excellent engine builder. so good calver develops all his stuff at mikes and you find mike is behind a lot of things.

plus he's a nice chap!

A good point from Nic.

My engine was built myself, the head from Avonbar, the block boring and initial machining done by my local machine shop, the dynamic balancing done by WDB balancing in Halesowen, and the line bore and steel main caps done by MED.

i couldnt pay someone else to build my engine! weres the fun in that!!lol
obviosly i would if i didnt have the time or tools but i do (sort of).
bits like heads, machining work i will hand over to the experts like benross (for the head)! but that still doesnt mean im not going to have ago at modding a spare 998 head in the shed!
best value for money is to build it yourself, buy that dvd on engine/gearbox building it is very good.

just my view

cheers

To be honest I was planning on a self build but for what I wanted I could buy the same pro built for not much more money. Plus I have found myself without garage and I have a whole car to rebuild (I guess in the driveway!) already when (if) it comes out of the spray booth. For some a pre built engine is a wise choice but maybe not for all.

To Vegard and Wil H,
We took The Simon head to Swifty and put it on his flow bench and tbh it was crap. You cannot buy an equivalent Swifty head!
Swifty used to race Metro Turbo himself, so has first hand knowledge.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

You'd be better off spending half the price of a morspeed head with Benross, and putting the money saved to a turbocharger that'll produce the goods than running a factory-spec T3.

No way is the head anything like as critical on a turbo motor as it is on a nat-asp. No way at all.
