Came into work this morning and the fucking pikeys have cut the lock off our gates and dumped a load of what looks like asbestos roofing in our yard.

Anyone know how you're supposed to get shot of it? guessing we've got the joys of trying to get through to the council?

It deoends what it is , but i wouldnt want to be messing with it

You need someone to come in and identify it, then they will come and take it away (possibly a tent so not to effect the area, seal it up, and a shower unit)

Get in touch with the council, they may have someone to pop along, or put you in touch with the right people

i wouldn't be too arsed if they'd dumped it round the back out of the way but its right next to my parking space!

just be careful with it, you just need one unlucky fibre in the lungs

I Wouldn't go near it mate, they obviously dumped it because they couldn't get rid of it (for free).

you can wet it down to prevent fibres floating about about in the breeze and getting in your lungs.

u need to identify it because some of it is safe to handle and get rid of yourself, if not you will have to pay to get rid of it, we did once and it cost a fair bit but make sure you wear a mask either way even if its safe stuff and wear gloves too as it dry your hands

well our gaffer phoned the cops and they said they won't do anything because apparently its not a criminal matter or some shite because its on private property. So in future if anyones got any asbestos to get shot of just break into a companies car park and dump it there and it'll be fine!

Trust me, the way to get the cops out quickly is to ring them, get fobbed of as always then get somebosy else to ring them and say "no need to come now as the block that rang was so upset when he'd finished talking to you he found out where they are and has taken a shotgun, a chainsaw and his dog. Think the matter will be resolved now, thank you.".

Worked for me in the past!

Anybody know anything much about getting rid of steel heating pipes with asbestos based lagging? Is the best bet to get a survey done and pay somebody a fortune?

One end of the lagging is open to air in the cellar. It then runs up through some boxing in the hall (which I want to remove) and then it goes into the floor in what one day might be a nursery....

I'll give the council a call when I get that far.

Your best bet will be to seal it in and leave it. It is seriously the best course of action and one that many industrial and commercial premises actually do. The only condition is that any sealed in asbestos, MUST be indicated by some small signs or lables.

What Sprocket says. Removal is a last resort. Encapsulation and marking up is best if you can.

unless it needs to be removed, i'd seal it and leave alone

having said that, I'd get it tested to confirm what it actually is

I'm going to open up the box section in the hall (screws only) and see how far the lagging goes. I want rid of the boxing and the pipes in the hall as it looks a bit of an eye sore (hall/landing next for renovation).

Had a fullish survey done on the house when we were buying it, so will have a look at what they say.

The stuff in the cellar is easily got at, so might look at wrapping it in a couple of layers of plastic. If the pipes aren't lagged in the hall, I could cut them and then lower into the cellar. It could be shoved under the crawl space we don't use then.

Hopefully it will be good news under the boxing in. Opened up some other today and found a nice cast iron radiator. Second time that's happened...

get onto environmental heath officer at your council they may be able to trace where its from and advise what it is and how to deal with it, its possible its pressed concrete as a dipshit pikie could not tell the difference

what fucks me off is people know what scum pikies are yet they still pay them for clearance and building works
