As far as I'm aware, Viz always kept a beak, although sometimes only minimal.

Thanks Axel. So a de-beaked will give lower compression if my logic makes sense. Beaked version with deeper dish in piston will give same compression? Edited by Jason G on 5th Oct, 2008. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

jason, as I understand it, the spark plug starts a fire, this burns across the chamber to the other side, the "beak" "spreads" the fire to help it get to all the corners of the chamber quicker/better giving a mre complete burn. The beak mostly affects swirl. This makes the cylinders fill easier= more hp. Also it helps squish area. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Running unleaded fuel on a 'leaded' head with beaks youll get massive wear in the seats. If its de-beaked then your not going to get the same wear problems.

In big bores its not so much an issue. With 998 and 1100 heads it makes much more difference. Can you elaborate on this ? Because what you said, makes no sense to me whatsoever, and it seems a couple of other people. the shape of the chamber has nothing to do with valve seats and valve seat wear whatsoever. 9.85 @ 145mph
