*oh well*

I just set up my rear suspension and went out for a play, the car wasnt feeling to bad, so i went on the long route around the playboy mansion....

changing into fourth gear the car wheelspinned, "crikey" i thought, and then started slowing down from 156mph for the junction (the speedo over reads!!) however i over shot the junction with a massive amount of brake fade

I then reversed back for it, turned in, and the car just wanted to go straight on, even when i applied more lock it couldnt make it round.

Eventually i got round, and checked over it and everything seems fine, it even drove back ok

What happened? are they all related? is any of this atb related?

leeds/wakefield.

i'm guessing that somehow the diff has become locked up momentarily causing both wheel to turn at the same speed[ no differential action] and resulting in cronic understeer, at slow speed,
has it ever happened before, NO , so of course its ATB related, its called runnnig an LSD, get used to it ,lol.

and stop jumping up and down in disco's

The ATB in my 205 has never done anything like that, it has always behaved impeccably, you can push it around on full lock no problem, unlike the don with its salisbury, which is a swine to push with any kind of lock applied.

no, my main concern was the fact it wouldnt turn in, but i thought id paint the whole picture incase it made any difference

My initial thought was that a cv may of broken, but a quick check over suggests that everything is fine

I don't like the sound of this... I've always said the only LSD I'd use is a Quaife - but this is not what i want at all.

I'd try and repeat it - maybe just find some gravel to get it to ' lock' on, then try reversing on lock again?

ie - I'm not telling you to go fast :)

Mine isnt, its gone from an entertaining to drive, to a dreadful to drive car

Ive either done something wrong in the installation, or something is up with the diff, ill give them a ring on monday

The length of the output shafts poking out of the covers is not equal either, there is 4mm difference so im wondering if ive got a dud

im with fastcarl, as in it sound slike the diff locked momentarily, although i thought the quaifes cant?

I was under the impression that by design a quaife can only give 4 times as much torque to one wheel than the other, hence why it needs both wheels on the ground?

Certainly sounds like the diff locked after the heavy braking which would explain why it would not go round the corner.

The inner wheel was rotating at the same speed as the outer, so even though the tyres were turned in the car was trying to go straight ahead.

Could it be that the 4mm has taken up all the clearance and the braking pushed the output shaft into the diff causing the problem - just a thought.

Well, They come with a liftime guarantee - So hopefully if there is a problem with your unit, there won't be any issues in swapping it.
Thankfully, it didn't take long to fit it?

following on from you other thread on fitting it Nic...

Could it be that the diff is shimmed on the wrong side moving the diff to far one way, thus causing the driveshaft to bottom out in the pot joint and cause the diff to do wierd shit?
