What injector pump is it? Have a look and see if there is anything on it.

If its for a heater or you need alot of it, theres a grey area. You maybe able to burn old veggy oil legally. A friend been looking into it. Waste desposal licence. The cost of a licence might be too expensive, I shall keep you posted on his findings. :) On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

As AlexF said, you need to make sure it has a decent fuel pump.

People seem to get round running 100% veggy. Alot of it is where they are running pre-heaters to thin the oil. Ok on bosch pumps apparently. Other than that...go 50/50 to be safe. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

It can be done, but works better if you can pre-heat it as it viscosity goes down and is easier to pump. It doesn't seem to work well on a cold engine probably for the same reason.

A mate of mine was down at Avon with his LDV van. He runs a 50/50 mix with no problems so far |

A few years ago I read that when running a diesel car on heating oil it was best to stick some two stroke oil in as well to lubricate the injector pump. If it is true, this might be a good idea when running on veggie oil. |

There is a pump that can be used that works on veg oil. It was on discovery a while ago i think. And I think it was a bosch pump as milamber says. Back once again like a renegade master |

a freind of mine has a citreon ax and a mitsibushi peoplecarrier type thing and runs them both of vegi. pretty sure its pure vegi. i think that because majority of diesel cars (if not all) have some sort of preheat mechanisms vegi works fine as its viscosity returns before it is injected/burnt.

I regularly run my sierra td on veg oil, I tend to run veg for a few weeks then go back to diesel, I always find the car starts to feel sluggish after a while on veg oil - I have read the glycirin in the veg oil cokes up in the injectors. Possibly could explain slugishness after a few weeks?

The glycerin can be easily nuturalised with an aditive... I'll try and remember which one.

Jim old chap, speaking from experience with my multi-fuel buggering about, I suggest the cheapest way to do it is to run K-85. Ie Kerosene 85% FRESH veg oil 15% (provides lubrication to your injector pump). Works fine. Used oil has to be transesterified which is messy and time consuming, new oil is a tad pricey (even considering red diesel) Kerosene/Veg oil or 70% Kerosene 23% red diesel, 7% lubricating oil will do it.
Bugger off, I'm getting there. |
