Somewhere around Swindon

I was asked late last week by producer of minifilms if i could take my car to a sprint circuit today as they were making a new film about alternative mini engined cars and needed a A series modified mini as the benchmark
Arrived about 930 this morning at the sprint track and from the off things did not go right as usual, starting the car created a big cloud of smoke so i took it for a blast up the road and found the car lacking in power of about a good 30-40 bhp, decided to let them use the car still and it put in a respectable time approx 3rd-4th out of the 9 cars there bearing in mind all these cars were vauxhall, honda, suzuki and bike engined minis this i was happy with this remembering the power loss and that the car picked up a puncture before the last run, bill sollis the driver said the car could have matched the times of the big boys if the problems had not surfaced, down side is that the lack of power looks like it was an oil control ring/other rings on one of the pistons this has led to pressurising the crankcase and oil starvation to the bottom end causing a rattle in the bearings, engine was due for a freshen up anyway but may need to replace more once apart

ill get some vids up soon ollie said he will sort the media side for me

anyway dvds out about christmas

Sorry to hear about your mini Wolfie, I'm sure it will come back stronger, shame I wasn't there to see it putting in some excellent times.
I was there on the Tuesday and had a great time even though there was a few problems with the cars.
The Z cars supercharged vtec was not running right at all, a mid range misfire which would suddenly clear mid corner dumping an extra 200bhp to the rear wheels was deemed too dangerous for any proper times.
The Z cars Ri mini was going really well until a slight mishap with a drive shaft which was a great shame.
The Type R mini was going fine until the driver broke, with bags of grunt but suffering a bit of understeer.
My Vauxhall mini was going well with the suspension finally somewhere near right. The car has not been mapped and was probably the heaviest car there, I was also suffering from the rear calipers sticking on (they were smoking a treat when Bill had finished) I'll stop with the excuses now... lol.
Had a great day and I'm really pleased with my car and how it handled, can't wait for the dvd to come out now.

so even though you change the engine in a mini, it doesn't lose it's best bit, they loved to be worked on so fall apart quite often.

I love my mini, but it's never 100%

i heard bill was psyically sick after the vtec drive as it was really hard to drive on that little track, a bigger track like combe might have suited the others better than my car anyway as they all had longer gearing than my 3.44

Jim i am pleased with my configuration, just need to find out what failed and fix it better .... its what give the a series minis there soul *wink*

all in all a bloody good day out regardless of times or the breakages, and i got to see my car doing some proper action ... priceless

K headed/KAD headed Minis are fine, they just represent the ultimate A series. Not bad being 1 second off the pace with a sick mini!

I have just uploaded Neils video footage to youtube, i will let him place the link up. I know that he currently doesn't have any access to the internet at home. so i expect he will put it up while he is working at some point.

Here is Mr Sollis stalling Neil's mini! This was after it was feeling sick. You can hear for yourself how bad it sounds!
