Are you removing them? If not leave them. You'll just push grit down the bores above the rings.

i whould start the engine remove the air filter . have a bottle whit water and just put alittle at a time and rev the engine so it dosent die. Then you steam clean the pistons , valve , and the exhaust ports.

As you've got the head off try a little Mr Muscle oven cleaner, it brings up pistons a treat.

They'll get black within three miles when you get it running again. Also, it makes a great thermal barrier. Cover it all up, leave it.

Well, it seems as you've already managed to get som crap down there. Use pressurized air and try to get most of the loose stuff up. Be careful not to blow it down the ring land.

Take the plenum off, and then you can put water in the carb, if you wish.

the engine must run. 1 liter is plenty. just alittel at the time , rev the engine while looking at the exhaust until its not blow any more steam. fill alittel more.
1 liter water is 1200liter steam. so the engine get realy clean internaly.
