how did those that went get on? i only went out the once first time on track for the car wasnt to bad apart from the usual idiots who think rules dont apply for them and almost caused a 4 car pile up, which kinda put off goin out again. my passenger got it all on video so i pay most up online for peoples amusement when i can get hold of a copy!

I spent Saturday in MK General ( 4 days got out today in fact) looking longingly at my track passes which fortunately they have agreed to refund

1380 n/a 286 cam stage 3 ish head hiff 44 built by sre sccr box sc drops 3.7 fd 97.4 nanna's@ f.wheel 92ft/b torque i think low 80's at wheels, usual suspension stuff, fibre glass boot bonnet and roof, lighweight doors. wasnt happy with the handling tho back end felt to twitchy.
any one else got any comments about those idiots overtaking in the no overtaking zone, which could of turned in 2 a 5 car pile up? ive shown a few of my m8 and they said wot a bunch of pricks!
i did try and have a word with the bloke but got the reply;

'and wot u want me to about it'

' i suggest you get back in your car and f**k off'

as he woz about 5 times my size i thought better of it and left. im still trying to work out how i kept my car straight due to having to brake bloody hard whilst cornering.
sorry to go on but he really really really pi**ed me off!

Nick, throw the 286 and drop in a 300 scatter (Piper), push the head over to Benross and get him to finish it and chuck on an MJ and you'll be in the 120s ..... that will make a few smiles I can tell you.
As much as I love the turbo lumps I still like a NA lump that can kick it out at the top for the track, totally different driving experience.

That pratt in your vid wanted a stiff talking too. I'd have probably kicked off so all power to you for being adult and taking the moral high ground ..... no matter how much he deserved a smack it's better not to.

Car looks like it handles well. You don't want the back too settled or else it's understeer central.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

never done a track day, so no comment. 97 bananas in the weight of a mini is still a nippy little machine. If you had fun on the day...thats all that counts bud. :)

Nick ..... I'm not running a Weber and never would on a road car!!!!!!

There is a fair bit of work to get the HIF44 to flow enough air for 130 BHP but it can be done. I think the limit of my current carb is going to be around 137BHP by calculation but before I'd fit a weber I go for a wet manifold injection system (obviously sequential would be the best option when we have it working).

At anything upto 120BHP I'd not even consider a DCOE due to the issues with cruising fuel economy and fuelling progression on light throttle, basically drivability.

You will find plenty of fans of the DCOE (I have run them on all sorts of engines in the past so am not a "hater") but for my money a HIF44 takes some beating on a Mini.

Personal preference I guess.

Go for the MJlt conversion. There are plenty of people on here who can help you get it going, I can do a pulley for you for example. There is a huge improvement in how the engine responds and allows the use of silly cams!

What was that white Mini with a blue stripe? Looked fast.

However 120+hp on a 1380, takes a serious head and a serious build. Not really going to happen with a single Hif44. Do you reckon Rog? Also if you're going for such a weapon, fuel economy would already be down the drain.

Vegard mine is 122BHP on MechRepairs rollers (which are kept well calibrated). We have managed to coax it up a bit with retiming the cam but it lost too much at the low / mid range.

Spec is;
MED machined 1380 bottom end
Piper BP300 cam
Head is similar to MED clubman offset
Inlet manifold is Min-Its supplied but had some serious work
Maniflow stg2 LCB
Carb HIF44 with all Vizard tricks plus a couple of other bits of work

The critical thing though is the OMEX 200 series ignition controller as this keeps everything usable.
Idles solidly at 1000rpm, no flat spots in the running at light load, able to take WOT from very low revs (about 1800 rpm).

Whilst your quite correct that it's no longer much fun as a daily driver it is fully streetable and can be coaxed through traffic easily enough and gives me somewhere in the region of 27mpg on the road when driven normally .... fairly sure that drops below 10 on the track though.

Anyway .... this thread has gone more than a little OT...

the MJ will not help one bit on the max HP figure though...Also I suspect SRE (slark) knows his ways around the A series heads, after all he has been around since the 60ies. He worked for Downton at the time.

I've had my mini on mech repairs rollers, and I only a few days before had it on emeralds rollers, and both gave the same power within 1 bhp.

Miniminor63 is totally correct about mapped ignition not effecting peak power (in 99% of instalations anyway) but it does make the other parts required for high output usable!

I don't know where the Slarke ref came from but he sure does, great respect for him.
I used MED stuff as I trust Steve and he has never let me down.

Glad to see a base line like that Jimster, thanks.
