Anyone know anything about engine management systems? Can they reduce lag? (Through ignition timings and fuel mixture (if injection is used) Anyone own one?

Yes

YES (not just through anti-lag, but by providing the optimum ignition advance for the engine load / opetating condition at that time)

Yes.

825+kg car that does sub 14 1/4 miles... Ok, there is a T2 in there aswell as a lot of thought, but there is also 100% stock rods and crank, and a head that was self ported 4 years ago...

If i was to build another turbo engine, engine management would be TOP of the list (above Block, pistons, turbo, everything! - As daft as that sounds!)

I'll be the first to admit, that with all the best laid plans, no-one ever gets in the top rung of Class D in their first year of trying... Don't know exactly why it is; maybe the preparation, the difficulty of launching a turbo, or just building a machine to do the job on the 1/4...

But, you need to get your foot in! Get yourself up there, have a blast up the strip (ideally against similar cars so you can get a real feel for what you are competing against), a look around, chat to the guys, and then set your stall out for the next year... Then you have around 360 days to achieve your goal...

lol all this class D talk is making me jelous!!

Seriously thou, (if you were aiming that at me, you could be meaning Jim, or everyone in general!!), I'm not and never have been aiming at the top of any class. Infact I have never thought of doing drag racing untill late last year,

fair comment - but i wa just suggesting that you have to get in there at some stage, the sooner you do, the better!

I have plans for an atack on the strip, but thats with another car I have ideas for...

The black one is a trackday car, thats all it was built for. Any drag racing this year is purly for fun... and I gotta admit its kinda taken my fancy! It looks like a good crack *happy*

right my 2p worth.....
1/4 mileing is a lot harder than it looks , 1st , 2nd and 3rd in the class D are prob members of this board, there is a lot of talk before the event of a mega turbo coming along and blowing us all away , never happens and won`t this year.1st timers on this board will be shocked ( pissed off) at how far they get beat by, by the top cars.
You need to practice to win , thats why a fast car with the wrong driver will never get near the cars true time , and you all know what i mean by that!!

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

is that why I was over a second slower than the 2nd place mini last year, and we had almost identical engine, power, and weight?

I have not built my car for drag either, it goes around corners, sideways if i wish to showboat. It still runs negative camber etc so all the suspension settings are the same as for the track. The fact that it seems to go quite quicky up the quarter is a my product of a light and powerfull mini. On the subject of weight i weigh in a 17stone so i make up for it with being i heavy fooker!

Anyone up for a lap of Cadwell park?.."The mini track"

Jon.
