Forum Enhancements - Ideas?

Hello chaps.

Going to do some forum updates over the next few weeks. Do any of you have any ideas for new features or any bugs that need sorting?

My list so far:

- Thread Rating - rate a thread out of 5 - good to be able to list the great tech stuff in one place.

- User Rating - rate a user.. ebay feedback style.

- PM User Selection - removing the dropdown (which takes a week to load) and replacing it with some fancy user-selection stuff, should solve the 'Must Select a User' error with PMs.


Anything else which would be useful or needed, let me know.

how about being able to search for users using the wildcard in the bottom of the 'members' tab?

eg *turb* would bring up everyone with turbo in their name - it'd make life easier to find those who don't have normal usernames.

it does that anyway. enter turb to find anyone with turb in their name,

I don't like the idea of rating users, they tried it on MF and it was just an easy way to slag people off. I guess it could work if it only had the ability to be positive i.e. you can only complement people.

can you embed videos? if not that would be cool, then you can watch any videos on the page.

Mood would be easy enough.

Embedding video - not so easy - upload speeds, limits and what-not sort of prevent it - better to just use youtube and link it imho.

How about making location a compulsory field for newbies..

How about putting some security on new user log ins.

We seem to have a lot of users that never come back and have unbelievable names.

Like "-=BestNudeGirl=-" !!!

How about you need to make a certain amount of post before you can post a new thread in the help needed section

+1 for Daves idea about location being mandatory.

+1 for Axels idea about filtering out the -=bestnudelesbian=- type new users

How about making the for sale posts have a bit more formatting, e.g. seperate text entry boxes for title, price, location to make them nicer to look at, and also to ensure people have to fill in the appropriate amount of detail?

I think just word of mouth works rather than feedback. You see other websites going silly with ratings, auctions, dating, family trees, links etc.
One thing that makes this site...its straight to the point, no nonsense attitude that makes it different to other sites.
Its simple to use.

How about an electronic ignition section? There's a section on efi, but there are far more threads out there on MegaJolt & the like it would be nice to keep them grouped.

What about splitting the "general" section into "general mini" and "Totally OT"?

Would it be possible to include a spell check function for all those people that don't have firefox?

Finally what about a stale out option for posts as some posts like "Anyone going to the pod next weekend" only have a limited life and in years to come only waste server space, obviously some posts (especially the deeply technical one) are worth keeping so an unlimited life option might be worth having as well.

Would it be possible to be able to delete repeated posts?

how about the PM system having some notification that the other person has read your message?

Marking posts as read, instead marking all as read is it poss to select which?
