Anyone know anything about choosing one?

It will mostly be clay pigeon, so been advised an over an under is the better choice for this, but a bit confused when it comes to barrel length, 28, 30 or 32"?

Had a blast on a friends beretta, a 682 gold, and tbh pretty sure Ill look for one 2nd hand as it felt so solid compared to the club guns

Cheers

Joe

yeah dude.

u just need to get one that feels right and at a price u can afford,

mine is a 30" barrel and it has a 14.5 stock
it is a barrishinga which is the predecessor to the browning medalist.

the longer the barrel the heavier it will be and it will shoot further and hold the shot together more.

also, buying one with removable chokes will give u different shot patterns.

my next one will be a beretta, they are such a nice gun.

do you have a licence yet??

it lapsed about 3 years ago when away at uni, hopefully be able to renew it, or ill havr to go through the rigmoral of reapplying again.

i think ill look for a 30" as a compromise and go from there, not much of a 2nd hand market locally

yeah, you'll prob have to re-apply.

£50 just 4 them to look at your application.
just make sure u have a cabinet attached to a wall (hidden) and somewhere to shoot

pending on how busy they are, takes about a month and a bit to get the license sorted. (after the firearms officer has been round and has given u a grilling on why, where and who with)

and as long as you aint had any mental illness, u should be ok :)

FAC for me next :)

Yep,

Stick with one of the big 3 names.

Browning, Beretta or Miroku and you won’t go far wrong mate. Beretta 682 gold a great gun. All the above are bomb proof. and can be repaired and serviced anywhere.

Sporting is the best all-round weapon of choice, don’t go trap it'll mess with you head shooting higher than the clay and all that.

Barrels 30. Is about right even if you go multi choke.

28, swings a bit quick and 32 the way.

30's sweet for me.

And the best bit of advice is taking someone who knows about gun fit when you buy, a club will point you in the right direction. Fit is the most important rather than spec.

Hope that helps.

Try www.Guntrader.co.uk or com.

i shot clays the other week for the 1st time (been target, and rabbit shootin 4 yrs) i used a 28 mirokou which seemed fine to me then used the old boys 32 mirokou and that felt bloody awful compared, but he does lots of game shooting and rekoned thats better, even so he still smoked most of the clays that came out with it!

joeybaby83 - If you going that much it's always better to join a club. Cos you will save money big time. Also bulk buy your cartridges the more the better to. I buy 5000 at a time and split them with friends.

Also plastic wod's make cleaning a lot easier than fibre. But some clubs don't like them.

Dont have one now as the missus made me choose gun or mini lol. Had a beretta al391 which was ok, to be honest i prefered my ancient balkai side by side.

Working up the BHP ladder.

I shoot a Berretta 686 E with 30" barrels and i love it. Had a 28" Miroku before that.
Depends totally what you wanna shoot, DTL, Skeet or sporting really?
Also see if you can have a blast with a semi-auto if you dont like the recoil of a double barrel *smiley*

well, got the bug again

I held off purchasing one last year as the club was going through a bad period and its future was uncertain, but its back in full swing now, so gonna take the plunge

the chap insisted i have a shoot on all the guns before i buy, and ive found my perfect gun, 28" miroku mk70 with recoil absorbing stock, its 2nd hand, but was only used about 4 times as the lad left for uni and had to sell it back to the club, bad news is its £900 which is beyond what i really wanted to pay for a first gun, should be able to haggle him down, or at least get a few goodies thrown in to sweeten the deal though

Can i ask what you guys pay?

here is £25 for 50 cartridges (members rates)

I am incredibly tempted to start up shooting again. Went pheasant shooting etc quite abit with my grandfather before he died... now seriously thinking of taking it up again. I preferred my grandfathers side by side... so might start looking again :)

well, after shooting it a number of times, and a fair bit of deliberation (and scrounging, managed to talk him down a bit) i bought the miroku last weekend

i wasnt planning on spending so much, but i cant get over how well it fits me

this is the guy i bought it off

hes a local legend, owns/runs the santon gun club, hes as manx as the hills (yessir!), and above all else one of the nicest guys ive ever (he even talks about himself in the 3rd person like yoda, its brilliant!)
