Hello! Is that JKD gearbox worth of money or is it better to buy swiftune´s "swift shift" box on my street car.

Thanks

Persaonaly it's the Swift shift box all the way *smiley* a 5 speed box with direct top is only really worth it for motorstort aplications. A more common 5 speeder for the road would be with an overdrive 5th.

Be interested to know where the machining is taking place as I thought the factory was long gone? China?

So what do You like med´s dog box gear set? Are Swifty still the better? And which is more suitable first gear 2,1 or 2,3?

Thanks

MED's gearset is the MBE set, which is also the same as the sequential kit which nobody bought so they converted it to H pattern. The ones I've seen are ok, very simular to swiftune, it's a very positve gear change.

good info Jim!

I see the reverse is placed elsewhere on the MED setup, otherwise it looks quite similar to the Swifty kit. I am VERY pleased with how the gearchanges was on the swifty box, but I would advice you to have some kind of "lock" to avoid missing 3rd and hitting 1st. Nick adviced me to do this, and I quickly realised why. 10500+ rpm (the peg on my rev counter is at 10500 and it rested against it:)) in first sounded quite bad, but as I run the motorbike head, no real damage

so people are running 5 speed dog box's or 4speed with turbo app's? i like the idea of a 5speed box but each time i read somthing about a 5speed box everyone slates them, now in this thread it seems like they are being bigged up. its very vauge to me what gearbox your all on about.
so is a 5speed box for road/track use eg 5sp strait cut box any good or is it only the dog box for race use?.

yours p

I have been talking about the 4 speed dog boxes, I'd love a 5 speed, but I doubt it woudl last a few laps on the track.

I run the Mini Spares 5 speed hele box in my road mini It has now covered just under 10,000 miles, It done 7,000 of them under a 100hp 1380 and has done the last 3,000 under a spice 998 about 65 hp apart from a problem with the nose bearing which was my own fault it has performed faultless, It is as strong as a standard 4 speed box if not a little stronger in construction the only slight flaw imo is the want the front of the lay shaft is supported otherwise an all round nice gearbox.
