fastest front wheel drive car in the uk could a mini be a contender?????

i remeber that turbo meastro won it a while back, i dont know what the current fastest is?????


could a mini turbo get in on that action, plenty of fast motors in this forum ????????? what ya reckon chaps anyone up fdor a go?

fastest fwd car is a mg zr 880+ bhp 1/4 mile record 10.23 seconds AN-Racing. that is a 2.1 turbo
there is a 1.6 turbo civic in the states which does the 1/4 in high 9's

CPL racings civic has put down a 10.69 aswell. thats a uk car.

in all ohnesty i cant see a mini making the uk's fastest FWD, and teh reason mite sound daft, but there too light. no weight pusing down on the front wheels. even if you lighten teh rest of the car to buggery you will still be severly limited by traction. This is based on having driven quite a lot of very high power FWD cars, even if i have more outright power the mini doesnt compare to a heavier car like a rover coupe or integra in the way the power is delivered to the ground.

you could say run stickyer tyres, but then all the competition can run sticky tyres too..

mini will get nowhere near i'm afraid. There are r5s that will spank even the best fwd minis.

Yep the quick r5s are running mid elevens and im sure they will break into the tens this year!

looks like we need to try harder :) but what can we do to catch up i have seen sposid 300bhp r5's im not sure of any minis with 300hp on an a-series what can we try to get more power and traction?

andy cooke ran 11.587@119.98 in 2005 light weight shell slicks and a gordini head, I lad i know of has also ran 11.5@122 with a blown 172 engine and was in the low 12's with the trusty c1j lump. As for pub talk bhp figures alot of the owners dont claim them anymore!The r5's are still makin some good power!

Its gotta be a civic. They do some mad stuff with the d and b engines.

you spend x number of grand on a mini to do 12s when with that x amount of grand you could a car which much faster as stock and hot that up and do 11s


but as the guys building the Hoover dam said: we like a challenge


and another thing: with a mini your missing out on the arse-end-out scene. which i can tell you is bleedin good fun

theres always the exciting factor when people say "but minis arent supposed to be fast", muhahaha

although ive got to be honest if i started again im not sure it would be a mini, but what else could i buy for £400 that could go fast

The "top" cars at TOTB do not use road legal tyres. They do use DOT tyres, which while legal in the USA, are not legal here. ( I use them for racing too )

Andy Nichols red MG ZR has run 10.2 at 152mph....so it is making a little bit of power !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is of course on slicks.

James' Golf has run a 10 on slicks, but not on DOT Tyres. None of the fwd contendors last year broke into the 10's at TOTB. He won the fwd class at TOTB6 with 11.69 at 126mph

Pretty much any fwd car in the 10's is on full slicks. I havent seen any of them do it on DOT tyres, although I think Andy might have last year once.

IMO it would be impossible on a fwd Mini, due to lack of power, and inadequate drivetrain. Well...at least with any Mini parts in use !! lol


There is an old Scirocco out there, with big inlet trumpets etc, but its n/a. Not sure what times it does.

The greeny coloured Scirroco with AET stickers ( although not really anything to do with AET aside from possibly running one of their turbos ) is a 1.8T engine, with 4wd running gear, and goes bloody fast !!

Yip, thats the same Scirroco. I think its around mid-10's so far...might have dipped below that.

Ive been at the track 2-3 times this year when its been there. Im sure it was the exact same colours each time.

One feature I loved....was the fact the rear driveshafts are just cut and welded back together to make them fit lol.
