With engine running at idle, is the dump valve supposed to be open? cos it is!

they do tend to be slightly open, blip the throttle and it should close.

At idle you have a vacuum on the inlet manifold side (pulling it open) and no positive pressure on the other side of the butterfly so in theory it should be open.

(if my brain is in gear!)

thing is, at part throttle at cruise, there likely to be some vac there isnt there? will it matter? or do i need a stronger spring?

get a blow off valve instead, i am getting one off ebay! end up sounding like a soddin jet or summat, proper high pitched dump!

Yep. They often call them BOV's now and then charge lots more money as it makes a different sound! lol!

Ive just got a forge grp A one i picked up brand new for ?50. Ebay Bargain!

this one is very similar to mine, came with a full fitting kit too, bloke said it cost him ?150!! can believe it now looking at those prices!!!

Mine was brand new too.

I had a diapraghm one then went with these which are sort of half and half. Worked loads better. its nearly the same as my le mans grp A one i had, that sounded really good.

Not bus like at all as it was really crisp.

Took it out last night.... its quite quick!!

but the dump valve is sucking (quite loudly) untill you put the gas on.... especially coasting up to jumctions...

anyone else experience this?

iv often wondered about this, as its un-filtered air getin into the engine. i meen you coast down to lights engine sees vacuum opens DV, and its easier to sook air in there than thro turbo and air filter...

It strikes me that it would get air through , making idle LEAN ...
lets see what the pros say :)

it wont make idle lean, as its intaking on the fresh air side of the carb. the air will just go in through the DV intead of the turbo... ie unfiltered!

its just the noise thats concerning me!

I went out tonite in mine, it seems to be staying open, well, as soon as i get to like 3000revs it opens up! Yes i sound like a coach! Thats only when its under load though, like going up hill.

On downhill, or stationary revving it its fine and opens only on high revs.

it should close more when it comes on boost! as the pressure forces it shut. You sure you've got it all connected right?

Feebs thats not rite! it should open when manifiold is under VACUUM (ie when at idle or low throttle openings.) once under throttle, it should close!
