How do you guys get motivated to go out in the cold and work on the little cars?

I just find that I can't be bothered these days - I wake up at the weekend, look outside, see the frost on the car, and suddenly all my motivation vanishes.

I don#t actually have that much left to do on the car, but am finding it very hard to get into it.

So, any ideas?

How about getting a ride in one of the very quick minis on this site. I'm sure that could create some motivitaion.

my motivation to get my mini finished was that If It wasn't when I went to uni when would it be?

also get a patio heater out there mabie:)

Just think of Avon park Alex, you shouldn't need much more than that to get you motivated! *wink*

Keep yourself busy and you won't noticed the cold...much.

I've had the same problem with lack of motivation. Decided to chuck a sheet over them and go buy something else :)

Do a PhD, after 3 years of having no life (or more correctly, no time for a life) you come out the other end cherishing every spare minute you have and you feel like tackling all your projects all at once. It for some strange reason has also left me talking in rhymes, Dr Suess style. Don't know why.

Only way to get motivated is to either have a goal or deadline.

If you don't need it 'til the summer, wait 'til the clocks go forward, as lighter nights make it more pleasant.

for me its thinking of it as lots of little jobs ,so i can go out , clear the tools ,and potter ,but thats my target ,then another time ,go out ,and do ,say ,the wiring in the boot etc ,and limit it down to little half hour jobs ,, that way i allways end up getting into it ,and doing more than i expected .

Serious answer now

MAke a list of everything you need to do, then make yourself go out there and start it, youll soon get into it and then you'll have to put up with nicky moaning that she doesnt see you

Ive got to be honest im lacking in motivation this year, im not sure if it was buying the lotus, or the fact that i hardly used it last year and i dont have the ideas for improvements

Im hoping its the second one and that im not starting to get bored of the car

I work in a similar method to Rob. Don't ever look at the big picture, just the bits that need doing.

Also I find that if I go to the trouble of getting thermals, woolly socks, hat and overalls on then I have to spend a good few hours on the car to justify the time changing. Otherwise it would be like brushing you hair and putting on a nice blouse and not go to the pub and get bladdered.

What I have to do:

Make and fit a parcel shelf panel
Fit posi lead from battery to engine bay
Fit a few suspension nuts (replacing slightly rounded ones)
Fit fuel tank & attach lines in boot
Oil + Water change
Fit thermostat + engine steady
Interior (everything)
Fit exhaust

and I think that's it

I also do the list thing and the potter thing. But it was much easier to do in my warm detached garage. Outside on the drive at the moment is not so fun.

Having said that I've just been out removing the clutch on the mini (again), but the motivation there is 40mpg v. 25 in the subaru getting to work and back.
