So last night Matt (MiniWilliams) came round and I took him for a blast in the mini. I'd changed the clutch on the Saturday and all was well. But then it started slipping again.

So last night Matt (MiniWilliams) came round and I took him for a blast in the mini. I'd changed the clutch on the Saturday and all was well. But then it started slipping again. I wasn't happy that I had fitted the oil seal properly and a few drops of oil made me fear the worst. Anyway, I've taken the clutch out and it's not contaminated, although the seal was leaking and I'll try again with a new one. The problem is that it's a verto clutch and I've put in the later, larger, plate thinking it'd be better. However, because the flywheel has worn over the years the new plate is only contacting the unused part of the flywheel (maybe 2mm) rather than the whole surface. Ideally it needs resurfacing I guess, which is a pain. Anyone have any ideas? bring it to me and i'll face it off ffor you. eassy peasy lemon fooking squeezy. |

What I have now is a better verto set-up that is more than capable considering the relitevely low power I have (less than 90 bananas). I'm also not overly bothered about the minor improvements that a lighter flywheel might offer, and I also don't want to wear the thrusts as this car does 8 to 10k miles a year. And, having recently moved to Yorkshire I've become a tightarse! Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Don't bother taking it off, just lift the engine out on your own by disconnecting all the engione to trans bolts, then lift out the gearbox, then re-assemble, then re-fit the flywheel, and with it sat on the floor, start it up, then using a file through the starter hole simply machine it flat yourself. Easy!

1mm was too much, the fingers were pretty much flat. But as I didn't know if it was too much I tried it anyway. It had basically just gone past clamping and into the release position.
