Hi,

My girlfriend has been looking at buying a bmw mini to drive, but over here in N.Ireland they are still pretty dear, so we started looking at mainland UK, on autotrader, pistonheads and the mini2 website, now we found a couple of cheep ones, and when we e-mailed the people we got the same sort of crap, that they were out of the uk and that they would get it shipped to us! Alarm bells straight away, that they would ship it to us, without us seeing it! Has anyone else ever heard of this sort of carry on??

Somewhere around Swindon

your braking all the rules of car buying if you go this route so be prepared to get royally shafted

be patient and view or get inspected the right car for you

I know as soon as they said this, we were like we would need to see the car and drive it before we hand any money over! But I was just wondering had any other people heard of this - sounded like a scam to me!!

Sounds a bit iffy. A mate of mine bought a Type R for his better half and got it cheap. Turned out to be stolen and rebirthed and imported from England. But this wasn't found out untill after they spent £1000 on repairs, the next day the police came and lifted it so they were seriously out of pocket (like £10k).

ive (well my missus) has a bini cooper and i love it. pretty quick for what it is, handles brilliantly. the only thin i done like is the shitty rover gearbox thats broke twice, lol.

The R56 has a better gearbox, both my mates who have the older one commented on how much better it felt.

I love how many random "shite" comments always pop up when the BMW Mini is mentioned, I recon its green envy cos they cant have one!

early ones used the rover R65 gearbox (same as used on many rover K series cars), from mid 2004 facelift on they were german Getrag boxes (cooper s has been a getrag gearbox since day one). its the engines in the first generation ones that are Chrysler matt!

the new R56's all use (different) getrag boxes.
