Its not quite finished yet, still need to turn the flange at the bottom for the gasket, fit the filler neck and weld on the breather pipes.
But, do I paint it or polish it?

If i remember correctly you dont have any bling under your bonnet so id say paint it.

Then again if its hand made it would be a shame to cover it in paint.

Oh well i havent helped.

F*%k me, you've made that starting with a flat piece of alloy?? I'm impressed. To paint it would be sacriledge. Why not have it anodised silver?

I'm still impressed. Any in progress pics? I'd love to know how you go about making something like that.

That really is the fucking nuts!

as Tom says you could get it anodised, that would be good as it'll make it resistant to scratching.

Give us an idea of how you go about it then Paul? Just out of interest obviously, theres no way I could make anything like that, you've seen my efforts when I made a "turbo house" for the DON!

Paul - that is magic - pure and simple, It would look good painted or polished, personally I'd paint it as its such a good replica of the original

brilliant work though mate

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

the only thing is any welds may look slightly darker when anodised, still much better than painting imo though.

Tom, basicly you hammer it to the right shape then file off the hammer marks. You can see 1/2 way down the front that its a different colour, thats the weld line. Its made top, front and back and weld together.

Joeybaby, if its painted it has to be green obviously.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Ill let you know next week when I do finish it.
I probably wouldnt mind the weld showing as its part of the hand made charm in my eyes.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Oh, and I vote for anodising it, but for the bling effect, get it 'splash' anodised blue with silver *wink*

fair does, make it look standard, lol.

reminds me of a tel conversion i had with a German chap who called re TI uprights, he toled me he was racing in the european historic championship and did my uprights look like a standard one, i replied no as they are fabricated out of 11 individual parts and has a distinctive silver grey colour, he then asked if they would look standard if he painted trhe matt black, lol. unfortunatly not, lol, so i let 1100 spondoolies pass me bay once again, lol

I thought you were good at your job paul? that looks shite! what a waste of time.
Fair play mate, that is really impressive. I would anodise it, (just to make it harder) then paint it if the anodising looks shite.
