This weekend I am hopefully putting my change of plans with the minis into action. My Jet black mini will over the next few weeks will be recieving the 1275 turbo motor that was destined for my minus, this will be its new home untill the minus is at a point where it can be used, the engine has been built for nearly a year, and im desperate to have a little fun and a turbo motor this year, will update and add pics as I go.
Wish me luck, Im hoping to finish ready for london to Brighton. eeek!

Good luck shane. Nice motor the jet black. Have you much to it since Snetterton?

Erm, nope, when I came to snetterton and met you and Jon, it was probably the last big outing it had, and that was only an hours drive, done a few trips in town with it, but thats it.

Well, all started smothly this morning when I decided to re shim my upper ball joints, untill when trying to undo the domed nut (swinging on a breaker bar) hear a load crack, I thought it was the nut coming undone, but was wrong, cracked casting! So the minus has donated yet more parts to this build.

Need to sort a battery out first thing tomorrow (as mine is shot) then the car will be moving to my friends workshop where it will be living for the next month while I carry out the conversion, am hoping by the end of play tomorrow to have the 998 lump out, and the bay cleaned up and polished. The 1275 turbo lump is ready to go in, but want to put a fresh clutch in it first, which will mean the earliest I an drop the new engine in is wednesday, BUGGER!

wish it was clean, got an oil leak so all the road dirt has colleted on it! All will be clened and re painted, but need to get the engine in and running first, and the geometry reset.
Cheers for the offer fella, but the battery I have is still in warenty so not an issue.

Well after a few set backs, namely having to tow a friends car home which had broken down I finally got started on the car at lunchtime, discovered the engine had more than one oil leak and there was just as much oil outside te engine as there was in it, lol!
The998 is now out and has been kicked to one side.

Got busy in the bay mopping up the oil and having a good clear up, just waiting for it to dry before I break out the polish.

I have taken the clutch off the 1275 as Ive got a panic on that its beyond use (see thread) but if im wrong then the 1275 will be in by the end of the weekend, failing that, it will be on wednesday.
The list of things to do tho is still f ing huge, O well slow and steady wins the race!

I wouldnt have the balls to take a gringer to it! Was bad enough when I collected the shell and was cutting holes for speakers and trimming the arches for the w&p arches, before it went for paint Yes im using mirrage manifolds and a t2.

NOTHING BUT ISSUES THIS WEEK!!!!
To start ordered a load of bits from mini spares on tues, on next day delivery so I could fit my clutch and drop the engine in on wed nite, which as the parts didnt turn up untill today, meant I have only got it in this eve,

went in ok but then more probs have occoured.
Firstly my acuator bracket fouled the cross member, not by much luckilly, so out came the junior hacksaw and trimmed it in situ. Came to fir the plenum and i cant get it in as the carb is too close to the bulkhead.

Is the way round this to fit adjustable engine steadies in place of the normal steady bar and one say to the water pump? Next I tried to fit the down pipe and that fouls the pot joint majorly, anyone else had this issue? It seems the the pipe is too long, the shape of where it supposed to set round the pot joint looks ok, but its just too low, but the joint to the turbo elbow is in fully. Am hoping if I loosen the elbow off and try to move it over on the studs and retighten, but im not that hopefull it will work?

Got bored an tired and just started messing with the 2 IC's I have, the R5 turbo unit placed on its side fitted well and the way I had liked to pipe it up neatly would of worked, but the back of the core was touching oil pressure switch, which I need to put another T piece on for a pressure gague takeoff, so made it not possible to use.

The Rs item, if I was to remove some of the mountings would make life a little easier, believe I can leave my washer bottle on the inner wing, the difficulty I can see is coming off the bottom hose as its very close to the WOK. Tempted to look at cossie units but dont want to have IC pipework running over the thermostat housing.

Sorry about the p**s poor pic quality, the battery on my camara died, then so did my phone (which the camara is duff) so ended up using my work phone.
Cheers

Forgot to ask, having second thoughts about using the water cooled core of the T2, can anyone see this as a problem?

Everyone has issues with the down pipe, your either hitting it on too much, or not enough

Im hoping to try that plenum tomorrow for you by the way, i havent had chance yet

Have you tried fitting the carb with the plenum already attached? Shouldn't be any clearance problems to be honest.

Yes I have, but what I havent tried is undoing the engine steady, fitting it and seeing if the steady will go back in? Might give that a go, Will prob have the same issue with Nics plenum too.

Ah, I fitted mine before fitting the engine steadies, and before tightening the engine mounts, so have a bit of movement there.

Not seen that issue with the downpipe before to be honest.

Should of really thought of trying that before throwing the rattle out of the pram! Is it definatly possiblt to fit the turbo setup using std steadies and a non injection subby?
Cheers
