A top weekend in many ways, lots of beers and laughs. Plenty of cheesey dancing in the "discotech" and two hangovers!.

Lots of no shows!!...

Trackdays next!

This is all i'm going to muster on the event i reckon, you'll see a better description and pics in a forthcoming MiniMag...

For me, Avon is so good because it's friendly racing, good banter (away from the security of your keyboard and monitor), and a weekend full of like-minded enthusiasts, it's basically a fantastic Social event!

The people that made it good!

Turbo Phil,
Respect. Met Phil a few times before, but never more than a brief chat.
Dead easy going, polite, and is well clued up on the 'A' Turbo? much more so than I realised in the past. Has a future 13 second car I reckon, even with the weight he's carrying from his stereo and playstation!

Iain,
What a Star - did lots keeping the board updated, promoting the site. Great sense of humour, and even funnier when he's had a few scoops! Want to see the turbo soon!

Tim Turbo,
Was pretty much doing the 'club' thing with backstreet minis (hope I got that right!), but when not there, was on the strip trying to get his hoses to the black stuff (remember the tyre pressures next time mate) but had to admit defeat when his clutch started slipping under acceleration. Get those lugs machined to 23.5mm and it'll hold just fine!

RichSpec,
A thousand apologies for not recognising you at first, but that's just me all over? Cheers for helping us with the seatbelt - that was a bit worrying - but it's not happened since.(???) Will hopefully see you at a trackday soon?

Wil and Ben H
I had NO idea these guys were twins - and I'm buggered if I can tell you apart! Full respect for pulling those times and building what is now officially the quickest 998 mini in the UK? Don't know if you dipped into the 13's, but if not, it'll be happening very soon!

MiniMark,
Yet another trophy to add to the (admittedly pretty empty) trophy cupboard? At last he realises the benefit of a 2.54 1st gear ratio, but is still not 'settled' in his new motor? A bit more practice on the 60ft times; adjustment of the driving position; and he'll be running 13's all day long! Then of course there is silly talk about hybrid turbos and mapped ignition! *tongue*

Jimster,
We've all seen the pics of Jims car as an unpainted shell only 15 days ago, well he finished it and arrived Saturday morning with a car ready to rock and roll - a major achievement in itself, but then to run a high 14 on just 9psi goes to prove that lightweight is a major factor. As always, a real character, despite never seeming to sleep, and he's my tip for the '05 showdown winner. I'll even say it'll be around a 13.4 second ? aswell? *happy*

Giallofly - Captain Planet!
Finally, Jon lifted the 1st place trophy, after 8 (?) years of trying. Justly deserved aswell, for a scorching run that beat myself by just 4/100ths of a second! I'm in no way bitter though, as Jon's a good sport and has a rapid car that is still running that tired intercooler and an engine that hadn't seen a Rolling road. More to come from this machine, but I suspect will give Jim a run for his money (if Jim has any left) once a big intercooler and boost retard is fitted!

And a Few others:
Shed - you f**ked off before I had a chance to bring the missus's car over to you.*laughing* How much did we agree for the Nitrous kit? (note to self - don't do deals when you're pi55ed out of your face*laughing*)!!! Hope to see it run a 12 second pass very soon?

Stuart Wright.
Always a pleasure meeting Stu and his family, and respect for having a turbo mini that pulled a low 14 second pass, and is his one and only car that is driven (over quite a lot of miles I believe) to work and back every day? Another Car that will be in the 13's next year with a little more development (T2 and maybe this elusive boost retard unit i keep talking about???)
Got a great pic of Stu and his brother both working on their minis whilst everyone else was getting drunk on the Saturday night, but that's reserved for MiniMagazine?

MiniMe
All I can say is get that on the rollers ASAP! It should be running mid 15's!Another sound guy I would happily crack a tin with again!

As regards anyone else, sorry if I missed you out, but I'm tired! It does seem I missed meeting a few people - I was probably too busy fixing Jons car (ha ha ha!), racing, or taking snaps for MiniMag!
If all goes to plan, that was the last year you'll see my mini at Avon? But hopefully I'll take a vacation to the UK to coincide with the Avon Park weekend next year. And I'll be looking for drives!

Boy did the weekend go too quickly.
Oh well, off to bed!

Atmosphere was good, company was ok *happy* (just kidding, it was just how it was meant to be)No really spot on weekend. Glad i went even though the mini didnt.

Absolutely shattered now, need more sleep but dont think the boss would be too happy!

I even helped "tune" the winning car, well i set the shocks to the hardest setting so can say i had some input! It was good to do a few bits and bobs.

Good advertising for the site as well!

Had a "boom shank" weekend!

i was there, didnt manage to get there untill 1 o clock on sunday, recognised a few cars going up the track, was very exciting watching all the action. think i want to give it a go next year, just to see what my car could do. i managed to have a chat with minimark, a really nice bloke. never got to meet anyone else though which was a shame, always seemed to be racing or not with their cars, stopped a camp turbo a couple of times but no luck. next time.
well done to everyone anyway.
