i've just found that post someone else posted of the conrod in the subframe!!!

yeah its fair to say i wasn't best pleased, but when we looked at the massive amount of damage i couldn't help but laugh!

im running the standard 998 with stage one kit at the moment but hope to fit a turbo lump in the comming months.

The conrod has been cleaned up and is going to be framed! the piece of block was briefly used as a paper weight!

Ouch,

Still gives you an incentive to drop a turbo lump in there.

respect. good effort.

one of the best cookcoo's clock impersonations by an A series i have seen so far.

while spectacular it is a bummer of course
are there any salvageable parts left in the engine ?

That sir, is not rust, it is the progressive mass reduction system

so it pays to put ARP rod bolts in there

The question you have to ask is why a perfectly adequate standard rod bolt failed in a standard engine. How many standard engines with standard bolts have failed like this over the 50 years of the A series?

If the failure was down to incorrect preloading of the rod bolt, whats to say , if the same situation was present with ARP bolts, that they would not fail in a similar manner.

Standard bolts are perfectly adequate in a standard engine, when preloaded correctly.

I recon that engine has been rebuild previously at least partialy.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I bought the engine off a friend and i think that it has been rebuild at some point. it was still a 1275 and hadn't been rebored at all. i ran it as it was. the only thing i added was a stage one kit and super 2 core rad. it was set up on a rolling road and produced 81bhp, which isn't bad at all!

Still i had a lot of fun with it and dont regret it at all. like others have said, if your going to blow and engine you may as well do it properly!

Good news is that as i type this i should have a metro turbo engine on its way to my house! I promise not to blow this one up though.

Also,

somthing like this could happen due to an uncalibrated torque wrench.

the other day theoneyedlizard was telling me about his torqure wrench that was masively out leaving him with headbolds done up to about 20 od ft lb.
