I put all of my new suspension / brakes back together this weekend,

but i seem to have encountered a problem when tourquing up the castle nuts.

This is the passenger side...

And this is the driver side...

What do you think I've done wrong? have I missed something?

Did you pull the CV up using the nut and a big flat washer, but leaving the tapered split washer out?

Is the taper washer on one side warn / deformed due to wear? Is one of th bearing races not seated (fully home)?

Mine has only got the tapered split washers on both sides. There has never been any flat washers.

Tapered washers both were fine from memory, I'll check though.

I built up the hubs together and I'm sure the races were properly seated. Again I'll check this before ruling it out.

I had wear on one a few years ago, the castle nut face would sit so far into the hub the split pin would lock on the castle nut.

Looking at the pics. Would that tapered washer not sit further back in comparison to the wheel/hub, if it was worn?

look at how much thread you have on each side, one sits alot futher back (the one your having problems with) than the other

I think that the one that is further back is the one at fault. The split pin barely catches the castle nut.

I think this is your problem, the wear is usually on the mating face with the castle nut, swap over (from side to side) and see if the problem swaps sides? Or fit a new one lol (less work)

Are the nuts the same length? They look different to me.

Carnforth, Lancs

I have come across different thickness nuts on my car giving exactly the same problem.
If I remember rightly there was over 1m difference between them in the tichkness below the castelations (ie the 'complete' part of the nut).

I'd put the tie bar to bottom arm bolt in the other way up as well, that way if the nut comes loose and falls off the bolt won't fall out.
