As Alex says, it'll do the job nicely. Keep the drill speed low is my tip.

A stepper drill can work a treat to take out smaller to medium sized holes.

I'd forgotton about stepper drills. I've got shit-loads in the garage. They give a much neater finnish than a holesaw, but are lomited on size.

Can anybody recommend a descent set of hole cutters? I've got loads of cheep ones, but they don't seem to do a very neat job of it, even on slow drill speeds.

Any electrical wholeseller wil sell holesaws ( no pun intended )

typical sizes are 20, 25, 32, 38, 40, 52 etc

Plumbers places will likely sell similar sizes too.

Also consider a punch style hole cutter. Q-max or something they might be called. You drill a pilot hole, and the device shears a hole out. Would be neater, but much slower. Obviously that style would not work on composites very well.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

I'm looking at drilling steel already in the car, the parcel shelf for example. So It needs to be hole saws really. Was really looking for a brand that people had used with good success.

I've got some stepped drills and they are great, but you can't use them everywhere...
