A rebuilt T3 from Avonbar. From recent posts I suspect the turbine is too big-an RS turbo one?

Sounds like the RS one.

The midget looks fantastic. I bet it's great fun! if not scary with that sort of lag.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

After last year's disaster with a blown engine I've rebuilt with Accralite forged pistons giving 8:1 CR.Then over Winter I,ve fitted a T2.Different challenge on an in-line engine, lots of room along side, none at the back. Also wanted to keep T3 elbow/exhaust pipe interface.Anyway,I moved the compressor outlet round and re-tapped it for the actuator bracket (modified).Used a sandwich plate on the turbine outlet and welded a T3 elbow to a second plate.BENROSS worked his fettling magic on this and it came together quite well. All the usual hassles on water/oil feeds and lots of insulation where the air pipe and exhaust manifold are VERY close. Now have to run in and set up on RR.
Also decided to increase the in-car ventilation (lol).See pictures above.

Hi Brett,
Just running in on 5psi boost now,but later 15psi.the head is quite trick, the T2 has a larger compressor, like a Tomcat,Megajolt,so your guess is better than mine!

I,m running a T3 on an in-line A series with an intercooler, cooking pistons and 16 psi max.So far so good.On full boost in second you have to change up so quick its startling.
So pleased to see that I am not the only one using 15mm plumbing fittings !!

sound like its going to pack a punch then, what sort of mods do you do to the gearboxes on these? are they pretty good standard or are they as weak as the mini's lol

Midget gearboxes give up a little later than Minis but the transmission of choice is the good old Ford Type 9, the Sierra 5 speed. These are good for at least 180bhp.
The Capri and Granada version is even better and has closer ratios.

All true Dave, but this has a Jack Knight straight cut gearset which all the spridget racers use-should be good for 200bhp.Uprated half shafts, but the diff.may be the weak link.

Horses for courses as they say -I like to think that my car is a road car(well, I use it on the road) - its not, but I cant hear the gearbox or diff above the engine, which would probably not be the case with any straight cut gears.
I always thought that it was torque that gave the transmission a hard time, so high revving racers with 200bhp(!!) probably are easier on the trans than a turbo at, say, 5000rpm?.

Very nice, bet that's fun exciting round abouts.

Let us know how the oil seal holds out.

Got to say I've not driven a Midge with a SC box, but I had driven one with a Type 9 and it's a nice conversion, that said I've still got the old for speed in mine and it'll probably stay that way unless I break the box.

Have you though about an English Axel at the back? I realise it's more money but would get you a better diff.

All this talk of midges is making me want to take mine out tomorrow, just need to find the special tuning cloths pegs for the choke cable.
