Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

What was the result? good power and torque?

Whats the spec of your car alex?

Spec is:

1275
std cam
std rockers
belt drive (timing not set acuratly!!)
t3
2" stainless system with maniflow down pipe
Green air filter

Only mods are:

Morspeed St3 head
CR 8 - 8.5:1 (depending on how far down the pistons are!)

On 8 psi of boost on a stinking hot day in the afternoon I got 120 bhp at the fly (90 at the wheels) and 150 lb ft of torque!!

The cam is holding the engine back there is SHED loads of torque between 4 and 6k so its possible I have slightly retarded cam timing.

The RR operator was Stuart Gurr at Vmax Scart in Molesey, London.

that sounds very good mate. ive got a phase 2 in mine so hoping that may help. Only on a std head though at the mo, thats first in line for a bit of tweaking. Hoping mine is going on the rollers within the next month. really want to make it to combe in october.

i can guess mate although im not going there, MBE is my choice *smiley* , helps only being 10mins from work.

we all know a good head is the key to a lot of things *wink* *happy*

one bit at a time though. low cost is the key for me at the mo!!

It was for me too... hence std engine!!!

And it still makes 120 bhp on 8 psi.... It will run 10 psi and with roller rockers that should be about 140 *happy**happy**happy*

Suprising what they'll kick out in a good state of tune. Its all about having a healthy one rather than really high spec a lot of the time within reason of course *smiley*

Im hoping for about 120 at the flywheel on about 10psi. The head and CR is my limiting factor at the minute so cant go over 10psi comfortably. probably wont even go that high, may stick with 8psi.

150lb ft?

Power sounds reasonable, but that torque seems very high to me for that boost for that boost/CR combination...
Have you calibrated your boost gauge???

Sorry, that came across as really negative!!!

Lets get to the bizz.
How does it drive now? Hhow much torque did it have when you drove in, compared to when you left? etc...

You've told us the 'scores' but little else!!!

boost guage is a good make and was calibrated about a year ago, apperently I got it off a good mate FOC.

The torque is very high, which is why I suspect retarded cam timing... it gets to 4k and the power just sits there all the way up rather than peaking (as it usually does).

That is impressive then.
I got my ass well and truly wooped by a Caterfield with just a 1600 cvh on webers when i did Anglesey last year, on the corners and the straights... 'only' 120hp was the answer when i asked him about his engine... and with a stock bottom end, mildly ported head and 285 camshaft, i'd believe him...

I think those 'busa' caterfields will be quite a lot quicker aswell...

They are fast but you have to absolutly SCREAM the engine to get any power out of it and on that circuit I doubt he had the gears for it...

were as I had the torque and much more track time than he did :)

Not really a fair compairision but funny anyway!

I have to dissagree, i have driven a bike engined caterham and they pull from fairly low revs, 4000ish till 12000. The 1300cc suzuki hayabusa is a favourite as it has bags of torque pulling from low rpm, Only problem with the busa is breakers charge the earth for them as they are not that popular.

I looked into buying a Kawasaki ZX9 powered machine, an awsome bit of kit even though it has only 900cc of internal comustion area.

On the subject of torque, when i worked with the Royal engineers i had a drive in a Cheiftain Bridge layer, they are powered by a 19 liter 6 cylinder, 12 piston (you read 12 correctly!!) with a supercharger the size of your average washing machine!!

That 60 tonne beast had a lot of torque!!!!

Hell mate well done on that torque:)

As you know i've had my car now a lot of years and i've been well into it for a few. And i would only have that sort of torque on around 15 -17 psi. What am i doing wrong?? Please help.
