Afternoon

This might interest you guys. We can now do a kit which converts the cam to roller bearing. There is quite a bit of block work as you can imagine and it also needs a special cam but bloody hell it makes the cam run free. Should make a nice revving engine.

Cheers

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Do you think thats a lot then?? We think thats quite good considering the amount of time and machining thats involved. Not forgetting the bearings, Cam and oil feed.

I think it is a lot of money compared to the gains it might give. It would double the cost of my engine (not including head and box) and it certinally wouldn't double the bhp.

But, considering the work involved I'm sure it's good value.

Interesting,

I have been looking into ways of incorporating roller lifters into the A series block, I shelved this for the time being to get the car usable.

I will PM you some thoughts Ian.

It's more a reduction of losses rather than a gain in BHP. Very small numbers at a guess.

I'd definately rather see (and pay for) roller lifters than this.

Don't get me wrong - i do like the idea, but the hp/£ is - as Wil pointed out - rather high.

Yeh..i mean this is mainly aimed at our racing customers who want every last ounce out of there engine.
The last car we had this in was a miglia spec mini. It revved bloody well. It's not about a gain in hp it reduces friction and makes the engine spin quicker. Trust me...it works. After the car was tested it was sold to a jap so was never out on the rollers. Oh well.

Yes - Miglia guys will definately go for this. I understand they off-set bore the cams to keep the correct tension on the timing ger without resorting to friction adding devices like tensioners. So if you're already prepared to offset, it's not a significant cost add I imagine.

BTW - you say SKF bearings, but that one in the picture has a Schaeffler unit. That is all i can fault really.

ps - Definately look into roller followers!!!!

out of curiosity, how could you definitively measure the difference in friction betwen this and the standard bearing?

you could get 2 built engines, put the pistons at half mast, take the cam drives off, fit a 12v motor (something like a big cordless drill) and then see how much current each draws to spin it at the same RPM?

you can then work it out as a percentage?

so you can treat it just like a difference in resistance?
