What ring gaps would you advise for a 1293 turbo motor?

15 on the top one is MAX. I use approx 12 on the top one, and 10 on the rest. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Ok bit confused, I took the rings off and put them in to each bore, seating them flush by pushing them down with the piston.

As turbo Tel says...file ends to correct gap. Never bend them! Yeah thanks, got it. I'll check the actual bore sizes tomorrow. When i first buit the block up about a year and a half ago, MED supplied the wrong rings, which where the next size up from the ones im trying now, they overlapped way too much and MED said it wasnt right so sent me these ones. |

Minispeed gave them back to me rattleing around in a box, seperate to the rods - with no markings!! Is that for real ???? Are they really not marked ??? If so, unless you have a fair few hours and a very good internal micrometer, I'd bin them and get some more - and don't send them to someone who hasn't a clue how engines work.... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

There are 24 different possible combinations of cap/rod (4 factorial) - even if you have found a combination that feel OK side to side by fingernail (a very good test in most cases) have you checked the top/bottom diameter with an internal micrometer for your "best fit" ??? Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Actual bore size is 71.1mm That's OK, if you mean 71.10. I get my blocks honed to 71.12 where pistons normally are 71.06. Can you dig out another decimal? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Then there's something wrong with the rings, ie. they are too small.

Have come across another problem now anyway, the timing end of the camshaft wont fit through the bearing, god knows whats wrong with that. Can you even get different thickness cam bearings? Cam bearing are normally slightly too big and you have to get them bored to match the cam. Isambard Kingdom Brunel said:

You don't hone a bearing. The cambearing is the softest metal known to mankind.
