Right blown my engine up. Made the biggist misstake ever, converten to MJ took the dissy out put a blanking plug in, took it out for a spin having forgotten completely about the dissy drive shaft which decided it didn't want to be in the gearbox any more and smashed a tennis ball sized hole in the casting. its come out rather bent so i don't know what it got cought it but i can't be good.
So... got to pull the engine out again and take the box off and see how bad it is. not sure how the crank and block are but the gear box is a right off.
not sure what im going to do with it now. looking at my options in case of a worse case the hole engine being scrap (bar the head of course) not sure if i should go Vtec or K serise or just 1275 with a turbo or supercharger or build another 1380 out of the bits i can salvedge. Ideas?

Pics to follow.

well thats totally upto you mate if you ask on here most people will say a series, if you ask over on 16vminiclub then most will say "alien" engine. id rip the engine out trip it and then see what you need, may not be a bad a you think.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Strip it and see.

It was possibly just the crank or the No.1 or 2 conrod big ends that clipped it and punched it through the gearbox casing. Hard to tell without photos, but you may be lucky..... if the crank/rods knocked it out, the gearbox internals may all be OK, just needing a new casing.

Hope you get lucky...

had a look and the gears look ok... but the bottom of the crank bearing looks like it taken a bad nock and the oil pick mite be abit bent out of shape.
I'll pull the engine out in the next few weeks and have a look. Won't bother getting it back on the road this year. will have to wait till next summer now. *frown*

Wheres the bolt that retains the oil pick up pipe?

IS it a central pickup pipe or a standard one?, still no bolts though *oh well*

Yes, the fact the hole is in the front of the casing and above the gears suggests the crank threw it out. Gears may have survived.

And, yes, where is the bolt for the central pickup pipe ? And if it's not a central pickup, what's holding the strainer in ???

that hole would tig weld if you can magic up the bits of cast, i had a box do that with an end cap coming away at 6500rpm on the rollers :( i was lucky one big bit of cast and it welded back in no probs.

if going hybrid sack off k series and go 1300 hayabusa with a turbo....that will be my route when i blow my 1275 up :)

BUGGER, SH-T & BUGGER again :( I'm guessing these are very similar words to what you said once you realised what happened.
Sorry Mate, but we all make mistakes sometimes you're lucky and like this time sometimes you're unlucky. All you can do is to get on with sorting it out and learn by you're own mistakes.
