I use 1 of these fuel filters between the regulator and fuel pump, in the engine bay.

To be safe,
Canl i use one of these between the tank and fuel pump also ?

The first one isnt really recommended for the fuel pressure you'll be using, i'd use (and do use) the latter and get rid of the small inline one.

This is how I did mine:

Got the fittings from here:

The adaptors are G-816-06-06P with 3/8 NPT thread to fit the filter. You need to check this as they changed the thread at some point through the MPi/Spi production.

The hose tails are M-USTR-6JIC-5.

I see u have it between the tank and fuel pump. is that the way to set it up ?
or can i have it after the fuel pump ?

Cheers.

As Gavin's comment, you really need one designed for the pressure of an injection system as the fuel pump you're using essentially develops fuel injection type pressures before the regulator drops it down.

They are usually metal cased, I bought a Vauxhall one off eBay, very generic, covers just about every Vauxhall, Opel, Citroen, Fiat, etc ever made with fuel injection.

It has two pipe stubs so no messing with threaded adaptors.

That's an SPi tank so the filter is after the pump.

They now call it something else:

Probably cheaper to get a filter with push on unions fitted as Rod said.

Thats not very exciting though is it Rod?

I know mine has a bit of rust around the bracket, but would otherwise look racy. Must be worth a couple of ponies.

Different ebay shop to the one I used, I couldn't give you a link as he hasn't re-listed it yet (I only bought it yesterday, arrived this morning) but price virtually identical inc. postage.

Depends on many things - its capacity to hold back muck (ie, bigger canisters will last longer), how rusty the inside of your tank is and where you buy your petrol from.

The plastic see through ones are nice in that respect, you can see when they are getting blocked, but they are TOTALLY unsuitable for this sort of application.

I do use one on my lawnmower though....

Not really.

According to my Manual, the Metro configuration had the filter after the pressure regulator so the maximum pressure it would have seen would be 3psi plus boost, say 0.7bar (using real units now).

Personally I wouldn't even use a plastic bodied filter at 0.7bar but maybe it was considered safe in the early 80s.

However, Markie's pump (same one as mine) is capable of at least 3bar and the configuration described (see Paul's photos) has the filter in the high pressure line after the pump, before the regulator.

If the regulator malfunctions that line and filter will go straight to 3bar plus.

If you have a plastic bodied filter in that configuration, I hope you carry a large fire extinguisher :)

Every car I've worked on with a high pressure pump with the filter on its outlet, uses a metal cannister filter. Look up the SPI/MPI filters for an example.
