The electronic dizzy should have two wires going back to either side of the coil (later ones had a 3 way connector but still only two wires).

i'd pop the dizzy out, then you can spin it by hand and check for a spark.

yes you will need a feed to the coil + for it to fire "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

probs guys, i have a decent battery & cant get the motor to turn on the starter too just chk oil pressure???? any ideas, i just want the starter to turn the motor & if i manage that i'll try to get it to fire! starter seems fine, engages & spins but looses its ummmph when conneted to the motor, the engine turns until it reaches compression then the staters umph is list, i've even hooked up direct to a running car!!! Take all the plugs out then it will be easier to spin it up to get oil pressure. And check that you have a good ground connection.

If it's a pre-engaged starter, just put your jump leads, negative to some clean bit of metal on the engine/box assembly (the bottom stabiliser bracket is a good one) and the positive to the big threaded stud on the starter's attached solenoid (the big connection stud furthest away from the engine).

Well, if you only get slow rotation (but it actually does turn) either,

is there a special way of making sure the sprocket on the starter is hooking with the flywheel everytime Not really, if you hear a clunk and the engine turns over (even slowly) when you bridge to the large tag, it's done what it's supposed to do and engaged the pinion with the flywheel ring gear. If you are absolutely certain the starter motor(s) are OK and the jump leads are OK, then you have a fooked battery (or your engine is a lot tighter than you think). BTW, do not assume your other starter motors are OK if you just tried them off the car, just watching them turn by themselves means NOTHING compared to the torque they have to provide on an engine. With particularly tight motors, do they loosen up eventually after running or can you cause damage? |
