This is a weird request for information but . . . . . .

Ive been speaking with a friend who works for British Aerospace, and he thinks it is possible to supercharge a 7 port head.

Now im not so sure but he thinks it could work. Can i have your thoughts please.

yeap, most definately possible to force feed a 7-port.

take a look at Mini13's build thread. same meat different gravy. oh and i believe he was thinking of going supercharged in the first place? but i may have my wires crossed with someone else...

anyway, the basics of it is that if you can get the compression ratio to a reasonable level or you can control/supress the detonation then it is possible to supercharge/turbocharge anything. its just the mounting that you have to figure out....but thats the easy bit.

boldy, you dont need to be an aerospace engineer to know that you can supercharge pretty much anything mate

Know i realise that. His Twin turbo charged capri prooved that. It produced 645 HP at the wheels when he was finished.

I just wanted to ask the question as i have no idea where to start and he's now too drunk + asleep to even start talking engines with him

its a bit of how longs a piece of string dude

in brief:

1. run a belt to the charger

2. plumb the charger to the inlet

there is probably a million different ways to doing the above, if your using a 7 port head, youll prob have to make up your own plenum/manifolds/tb(s) etc, so just fnd a nice place to position the sc, ic etc, and plumb everything else in around that

well we have good news and bad news.

We found an engine just before christmas in a scrapyard as by luck it had a 7 port head on it.
We payed a grand total of 45 quid for the engine and took it home rubbing our hands.

Now we've pressure tested the engine and now stripped it down to find the head has a hairline crack in it so its worthless.

The good news is the the engine is bored out +20 to a 1293 and we've managed to source a bini supercharger for 100 quid brand new so we're now on the hunt for a new 7 or 8 port head to start building our project engine so stay tuned

You seriously found a 7 port head in a scrapyard. Any photos? And is the crack really unrepairable?

7 port heads are rare as hens teeth, nobody in their right mind would scrap a car with one on. You are either the luckiest man in the world or the wrongest man in the world.

Don't forget the Manx 7-port heads, although rarer than the AKM, I guess anything is possible.

ooooooo interesting.....

surely its too hard to mistake a 7-port with a 5-port to get it wrong!

we want pics *happy*

if this is true (not saying your lying mate) then the person who has scrapped that car has had a nightmare!!!

but still not as much of a nightmare as the person who sold it for £45!!!!!!!!!!

Thats a bastard about the head. But to find a 7 port engine in a scrappy? how the hell did that go so unoticed. Its hard enough to find any 1275cc engines any more in scrappys.

As requested below are pictures of the head.

Jason (The guy building the engine up) has pointed out that i am wrong and its actually an 8 port head!

Jason informs me from his research on the engine this is actually an arden 8 port.

From the photo you can see the crack between the 2 ports.

he only found the problems after he'd taken the engine into work to clean and take it apart.

you need to host the photos on the internet first. You can upload photos onto this site from the front page (i.e. www.turbominis.co.uk)

Not the order I'd go for, but sounds like a great night all the same!

WOW, £45. Can this be fixed?

The photo of the crack confuses me...
It looks like it's between 2 inlet valves (which would be strange anyway) but I thought the 8 port heads went I,E,I,E,I,E,I,E

Or am I going mad ???

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
