Bit random, but i'm just curious as to how far you guys commute to work?

In my last job I commuted 20 miles each way, which took 40 mins due to the traffic. That was the peak I could cope with but it was a particularly sucky journey.

I've got an interview for a job if I want it, which sounds pretty good but its in Horsham, which is 45 miles away each way from where I live! Thats the major downside really as I dont feel i want to travel that far and dont want to relocate. I dont think i'll take it as its shift work (6am-2pm) which means id have to get up at 4am*surprised* to get there in time which would pretty much destroy whats left of my social life lol.

I'm trying to work out how far i'm willing to travel but I guess it totally depends on the job!

I've never travelled as far as 45 miles. I used to travel a little over 20 a day, plus a 15 minute walk from car to office. Total door to door was 35mins in the morning and upto an hour in the evening.

Since I moved my commute is 13miles, but it's a better route, so 30 mins each way, including the walk.

If you were travelling at 6am and 2pm then the traffic will be lighter. Why not get up one morning and give it a go? Might be quicker than you think.

11 miles each way at the moment.

Worst commute that I've done is on the train to Rochester. Had to catch the train in Harlow at 4:50 am to get in for 9:00am.

Obviously this was before I had a license. The journey time was reduced to 1 hour 40 mins once I was driving.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I did 48 miles each way on the A14 during rush hour for eight months. It was dreadful and took about 1 1/2 hours in the mornings.

Depends on the roads really as traffic should be light at the time you said.

I now travel about 5 metres each way. Much better.

13miles each way at the moment. Anywhere between 20-50mins in the morning and between 30-60mins in the evening.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

60 mins to drive 13 miles *surprised* that would drive me nuts. 7 miles in 15 minutes for me and i find that annoying.

1.9 miles to work, before it was 1.6 you can tell they are close to each other lol. to be honest mate, social life or getting money in to live off. i know what i would take, if they are your proper mates they will always be there so take that job untill you can find another and rain check with everyone.
end of the day imo a job is a job even if it means making sacrifices to servive i would do it

60mins is the outer limits. Typically get it done in 30mins in the morning and 30mins in the evening.

But for some reason the odd day traffic is monsterously crap.

At the moment 20 miles. Have done 213 miles every other day but the most on a daily drive was 106 each way the petrol cost was cheaper than getting a room

Own the day

Christ 95 miles is alot mate, do you get help with the petrol from who you work for??

I am surviving moneywise at the moment, but its probably the worst time to be unemployed...

Eveyones laying off and not hiring, I got laid off from Rolls Royce just as I was due to go permenant, ending the "probation" period. Was a perfect job really, the distance wasnt really an issue for the salary I was getting straight out of uni.

But as I say I should really take anything I can get at the moment, even if the job doesnt sounds majorly interesting and the hours and distance are big disadvantages, the salary is still good.

It's for a company called "Cogenco" http://www.cogenco.co.uk/ as a "Systems Monitoring and Maintainence Engineer". It does sound pretty interesting but I think something local and more what im qualified for and interested in (automotive engineering) will turn up sooner or later?

My dad was commuting 45ish miles to work each way in a davrian a while back. There were some interesting stories with that car, like loosing all lights at 60 miles an hour in the dark, or fixing it each weekend so it could get to work the following week.

The point at which it had to go was when He got a job in milton. keynes and it needed to come of the road for significant work. Damn I want that car back.*oh well*

i'm about 7 miles and up to 60 mins in the morning due to traffic - the distance isn't realy an issue to me, its the time.

I know of people living further away who have more miles to run in the morning and take as long as me though

the time of the day you are talking about, chances are the traffic will be light
