i said i would ask about so here goes, basically a guy needs to re cast a set of old WW2 tracks for his tank, does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that can do this ? he would provide the old tracks as material, along with a new link as a pattern. there is 166 links per side of the vehicle.

From memory these are high manganese steel castings.Look in Kompass or similar for steel foundries in the northeast. 'Where does the engine go?' |

There used to be a stolly parked up outside a house on A422 between North MK (Stoney Stratford) and Buckingham but it was in need of a resto and one day it disappeared. There is a load of other military vehicles there now! Bet his neighbours love him!

Richie Richie, with over 300 individual links to cast and finish machine i hope your friend had very deep pockets. firstly you'll need some patterns making from the origional and by the look if the links the sand cast moulds will be at least three part, so whilst not overly complex it gives the foundry the bullshit leverage they need to bump up the cost, all the small foundries are all but gone, only the most efficient are left, in the UK that is,and they are only just in business by doing production contracts, i'll comfortably predict that he'll be looking at 10K for the finished jod, if he can find anyone in the Uk to do it, specialist foundries may still exist but will come at a price , carl |
