just wondering what guys are running to what pressure plate and what final drive.

the point is i am experiancing probs with clutch slip now on 18 psi ap ralley plate grey diaphram and 2.9 fd.

how ever i have had a seal problem which contaminated my plate a bit, i changed to the uprated seal as they didnt have any at the time the new plate went in.

how ever during a play with a carrera ( my god the hog did go on 18 psi ) but the clucth started slipping like mad in 3rdand 4th when she got hot.

so just going to see what you guys are using before i plump for a double grey, as her in doors wont be chuffed with that i dont think.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Double grey is the easiest solution for you. Or you can make a twin-spring verto, or you can re-mortgage your house ready for when my clutch is done (damn exchange rate) :(

Look at rover P5 or P6. One of them had a clutch servo...

I had to fit a double grey. 16+psi & my single grey slipped.

for a road car i personally would steer clear from a double grey from a thrusts point of view, i'm going to give a twin spring verto a whirl.

I bought Carl's engine which had a single grey and ate the thrusts after no more than 3500 miles.

A double grey must be a nightmare!

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

while you have the clutch out did you modd the back plate by removing 1.5mm from the 3 lugs ?

this would increase the clamping pressure somewhat!
(as per Turbo Daves original modd)

Go double grey, it's not that bad on the left leg or the thrusts. I'm suprised a single grey has lasted you this long, as you've got quite a bit of power at the moment.

How is your clutch looking dave? ready for the weekend? I want to try 30psi again

cheers for response guys will have to check when i remove it soon.

i think the gearing doesnt help, putting extra load through the clutch to propell car forward in high gears, t3tone is ok on a grey at 190 bhp on his 1380 but does have a 3.2. but yes lkooks like a double grey but will look at the back plate, at the moment i only use 2 straps as i know loads on here use 3 thus requiring the extra to be taken of the back plate.

I was going to ask this question so I may as well ask here if you don't mind? With the clutch assembled I have the straps just touching the lugs on the backplate. So I take it the TD method will give you a bit of a gap there?

hoggy, me and t2clubby both only use 2 straps on ours but after taking the height off the backplate lugs we've had no problems with clutch slip. kean uses the AP rally plate with around 200lb/ft and i used a std minispares "uprated" £16 plate with 170 ft/lb.

*edit* both on single greys with 3.1fd's and up to 20psi boost.

What height does the backplate end up at after taking the 60 thou off?

I want to find out if mine has already been done.

That's what I want to tease out, standard I think the straps just touch the horns of the back plate. If you machine them down then there would be a gap.

Look at Roberts "Clutch thoughts" thread. Or search RTS (Robert's Twin Spring) Clutch.

There is now exact figure for this Bolt it all up and measure the damn thing.

I've ended up removing WAY more than 60thou on occasion.

There's no point machining the lugs if it's not required. You just need to machine enough off to get the diaphragm to sit flat.
