someone was posting on the MiniMania site about these cranks for sale in SA. I tried the search through the last year and didn't find it. Try posting your question there, it gets a lot of traffic, someone will remember.

Well they where only ever produced here in SA.
Instead of having long stroke 998s as our 1100 we had short stroke 1275s.
The stroke is 69.85mm so good for revs. In the late '70s 1100cc race engines where running at 9k regularly.
I know that many where exported to Oz for racing there as engines using these cranks way out performed the long stroke versions.

they are supposed to be 70.2 mm stroke I have been told from various sources. Mine is aswell.

The Cooper S 1071 had the 69.85 mm stroke.

Very interesting ! I got the measurements from a book I have on the history of the mini in SA which is based largely on the the info given in the archives of our local car magazine. Ill ask a friend who is a local mini expert and see what he says.
Nic send me a PM. Im coming to the UK on the 10th or so of April , maybe i could sort you and PaulH out at the same time.

hmmm, 70.2mm stroke eh?

999cc - 999000cmm

999000/4 = 249750cmm

249750cmm /70.2mm = 3557.6923mm(sq)

3557.6923/pie =1133.023

route of 1133.023 = 33mm (ish)

so 66 to 67mm pistons to have sub 1000cc big bore engine...which is smaller than std bore. trumped.

Ah but if you have the crank reground to S big end sizes you can reduce the stroke :)

Ok guys I didnt really expect so much interest !
I could supply the cranks but the main problem is postage. About 240 pounds from here to Ireland and probably similar to England.
If there is a big enough demand im sure we can organise but I wont be able to bring 5 cranks over in my hand luggage ha ha ha ha.
In other words Pm me if your interested.

Very true PaulH but the problem is with the standard stroke and 1275 pistons the block needs to be decked by about 7 mm.
I would increase the stroke to 73mm and use 73mm pistons.........Nice and square !

I will be using 73.5 mm pistons and decking an old A block I want to keep the 70.2 stroke as that leaves me with a bore to stroke of 1.05 which is supost to be the golden number, that and a K head and I should have a super motor :)
