isnt it just opposed inlets to keep the head temp down rather than having 2 red hot ex valves next to each other? "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

Well each turbo is fed by its own set of exhaust valves by the look of it, I guess you can get away with smaller primarys and increased gas velocity this way?

it runs 2 small turbo's and closes off one turbo at low rpm, giving the 2 litres feeding one small turbo this spools it up realy fast and when the desired boost level is reached or it goes above a certain rpm the second turbo opens up to provide yet more boost and allowing more exhaust gasses to flow, its a very clever way of doing stuff but mega complicated, the supra, aristo, skyline, the tt soarer and a fair few others use a similar system but only having 4 valves + 2 ports per cylinder its alot simpler Edited by Brett on 4th Apr, 2009. Yes i moved to the darkside |

The only sequencial twin turbo set up I can think of is the RX7. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

yip, if you get the opportunity to drive one they have a very distincitve power delivery :) there is a valve in the hot and cold side of the "rear" turbo that blocks it off so all 6 cylinders feed the front turbo untill a predetermined boost / RPM point, where the valves open and the second turbo spins up. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Legacy GT (and a few other variants) is twin sequential turbos too. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

and by the looks neither does this lancia. both turbos are fed gasses at all times. :) i dont want to start an argument, but i was relating to this engine diagram and yes it does run as i stated i have researched this before you can clearly see the egcv after the left hand turbo!!
and for the cars i listed as twin sequential turbo, yes i agree as i recall the Skyline (twin turbo) runs parallel turbo system, i have driven all the 'engines' i listed and indeed owned my own 2JZGTE powered rocket the sequential system is not to be underestimated
Yes i moved to the darkside |

im a bit confused now, are you saying that the digram is a sequencial setup?

It looks like it could be, there is a big actuator on the end of the left hand turbo to bypass exhaust gasses until it is called for, there is also some kind of valve on the outlet of the left turbo to stop the other turbo back feeding through it when it is not making any boost.
