Hi everyone,

I make the Minifilms DVDs with Ian Stent (I film and edit them and design the website, while Ian does the journalism bit - finding the cars and presenting the films). Hope you'll excuse me crashing your forum (I'm going to post on some other Mini sites as well) but we'd love to get some feedback from you guys about what we do next...

We love doing the track DVDs with Bill, but to be honest they cost a fortune to make and the technical films we make are consistently good sellers (the engine build with Bill Sollis, Z-cars, and the Watson's VTEC conversion etc). We've been leaning towards doing a tech film, but there are so many potential subjects!

The track DVDs are where we started, but we're going to have to nail the subject matter on the head if we're to sell enough to make it viable because of the production costs, and the risk of rain which can really spoil the party when we're filming over two days.

So, what would you like to see? Action? Technical? Something new altogether?

We're a tiny company and in the current climate really can't afford to make mistakes, so any feedback here really will go into making a product you want to see and we can sell!

Get posting - even the mad ideas might be the best ones!

Thanks for your help in advance.

Paul

Hello

Id quite like to see some performance shoot outs between various styles of modified minis

Like the Llandow day, but with 0-60, top speed etc too (You can this with various mobiles with gps and free software so its not going to be too expensive)

I think an in depth gearbox build guide would be good.

I would certainly buy a technical dvd on how to build a 200 bhp turbo mini. Or perhaps something in association with Stuart Gurr and his supercharger kits. Dunno how much of a market - thats for you to fathom I guess.

Some of these ideas may sound rubbish but this is what springs to my mind:

A k1100 build like your 1380 builder would go down well.

How about utilising trackdays like Avon, MITP and castle combe, you could ask people before hand to document their runs etc and all you'd have to do is rig the cars with camers etc.

Prepping a competition car, hill climb circuit racing/mighty minis etc etc?

How about some sort of injection shoot out? Injected 5 ports vs injected 7 and 8 ports, 8v and 16v, turbo and non turbo? Could be something along the lines of a technical DVD on injection conversions (maybe an Emerald conversion or something) and a dyno shootout to show the potential.

Might not appeal to die hard originalists, but would certainly appeal to people looking for power and maybe more reliability?

I personally think a suspension set up vid would be terrific, i.e. how to adjust castor/camber/toe etc and how it effect the handling, what setings are good with 10's, 12's, 13's etc yardy yar

nearly every mini on the road has modified/adjustable susension, so you would be onto a winner imo

who gives a fuck how many bananas you have got if its a pain to drive?

i like joey's idea, i recon a good racing tips and setup dvd would be good ie a track day eg MWAD showing people tips and pointers to improve there track performance lines ect with an indepth suspension setup as well. i would like to see a dvd showing pro's and con's to diffrent types of setups eg 13's 10's 12's with cones or the springs to full on coilovers

I think this is a good idea, Gtechs are handy for this plus 0-60 is something people can relate to.

To give those that are not really sure about 1/4 mile times maybe have a bench mark car that most know (hot hatch/scooby) and then some rapid minis to give an idea of acceleration. Also like the idea of suspension tuning and building high horse power minis.

yeah we could have a standard 1275 mini go up the quarter then have a turbo version mild tune then a highly tuned one go aswell

and then we could maybe have nathans v8 mini...haha

Brilliant suggestions! I'm actually making notes of all the ideas in a little database, so they don't get forgotten.

Ian and I had a big meeting last week in a very nice pub and apart from deciding to spend far too much money on marketing materials (pens, t-shirts, carrier bags and even flag would you believe?) we've decided to make the first of our series of "short tech" DVDs on welding! Oh the glamour of it all...

But I think it'll be a good starting point. We'll cover everything from start to finish and do it with an expert in the field. 45 minutes minimum, under a tenner, job done! Actually if you've got any ideas about what we need to weld (panels, sub-frames, cages etc) do let me know - it'll all go into the pot.

It's got to be suspension after that from what I'm seeing here?

Oh - and see you all at L2B next week? With our flag. Come and pick up a pen - surely worth the visit to Brighton on its own?
