I left avon park yesterday and my garmin sat nav started to lose it's signal from up above. today i was in bolton and it still won't pick up a signal to the saterlite. so has mine gone tits up now after many happy a year of trouble free motoring. Or is there a bigger problem above????

Has your garmin sat navs if you've been driving up north, working all ok today??

as it's hard fining places with just the postcodes now lol.

My Nuvi 310 was working fine.

As they all listen to government satellites...I doubt any problems would be specific to any brand ??

It would have to be down to an individual unit ?

On another note...

What do people reccomend as the best Sat Nav, for route planning with multiple destinations ?
Preferably with a decent sized screen ( My Nuvi310 is very small )

Matt,

firstly, try the garmin website,

http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/uk/s...t/searchsupport

the FAQ section on there is the best I have ever seen, if you can think of a question, i can almost guarantee it will already have been answered! if not, ask it and it will be in 24 hrs

their customer service is awesome too, if its a problem internally, even outside warrantee i doubt youll get billed.

Sounds like a fair assumption lol

I know we used a friends Tom Tom when we went to Denmark...and certainly the images displayed on screen, were much better than my Nuvi 310. Although it did also have a widescreen.

Id'still like something a little bigger.

And something with cheap or free map upgrades. The Garmin's seem quite expensive ??

Want to buy a fully working Nuvi 310 Matt ? lol

I just ordered http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1436/...nuvi-765t---765

Seems to be very good...does full route planning, as well as watching for traffic etc.
That's the cheapest I could find it.

I just liked my free traffic up dates on the garmin, was handy at times.

Just to add...the Nuew Garmin I bought is working very well...very easy to use etc etc.

A friend also recently bought a Tom Tom for a trip to England. Classic XL or something from Tesco, £146.

I only used it briefly, and all I can say....what a total nightmare. The user interface is nowhere near as easy as the Garmin.
And he's already been on teh phone complaining that it isnt finding some easy addresses in England. It keps trying to go elsewhere when he types the postcode.
Apparently the right info is in there....it just doesnt go directly to it.

Guess I'll never buy a Tom Tom !

If it did happen, given the heavy reliance on such systems....The Sat Nav companies themselves would have to develop some sort of alternative.

Perhaps a positioning system using the traffic FM signals or something. Or something using the mobile network.

my phone can do location from the phone netowrk when a gps signal isnt avaliable, but it isnt very accurate atall, uaully gets you to within a quarter mile radius. :( tbo its probably just scaremongering, i cant see it failing, so many things rely on it, not just the public, think aircraft and boats , unless ofcource they use a different system!

The phone network can be pinged to give a good location.,

One time I had to use the AA, they asked permission to use my mobile signal to locate what road I was on...even when I had already expleined to the bummy on the phone where I was.

i cant see that the GPS system will fail! Think how much the armed forces rely on it...just cant see it happening.
