Hi all,

Currently im driving a Mini City E 1982 with the 1275 engine.
looking at getting a turbo engine to drop in there instead though! *wink* at the moment my car is off to road as there wasgoing to be some work needed for the MOT (including a complete rewire)

i thought while its off the road i could take on this project :)

i seem to have got off on the wrong foot with some people in the wanted section so thought this might hopefully get things ok again lol

few pics of my car

The picture there with the white roof is photoshopped as im also hoping to get the roof painted white, and i have dropped the bonnet now to be flush with the wings

thaks for reading :)

Welcome.

If your car is off the road, why not turbo the engine you have. There is very little difference between a standard 1275 and the Metro turbo engine, other than the bits bolted to it.

money was the main reason. from what i understand there is alot of money required to turbo this engine.

where as it seems 1275 turbo engines with everything attached seem to pop up on ebay and sell for around the £700 mark

TBH i really woulnt trust an engine without rebuilding it.

Most have been round the clock and need a rebuild anyway, so why not rebuild yours to the required spec.

Really depends on the spec you settle for.

If you spend enough time on here you will be out of pocket in no time!

You can spend anything from a few hundred just to re-ring and replace the shell bearings up to £4-5k for an all out motor and gearbox.

Best thing you can do is stalk this forum for a while and you soon get the hang of the options available and it will help you form your own ideas of what you want.

I bought a £600 80k genuine miles metro turbo engine back in 2006, took it apart and one of the piston rings was in pieces and the mainbearings were shot!!

I'd take apart your engine, it'd be a cheaper option.

Cost wise depends on the spec you want, as mentioned!

Nice car! I like the exhaust. If I was you I would build an engine unless you can buy one from someone you can trust. I hear so many stories about people buying engines from ebay etc that are meant to be good. In all fairness there will be good ones out there but it is a bit of a gamble knowing if you are bidding on a good un or a bad un! Just my opinion *smiley*

welcome - as said above your better off building the engine from scratch, it will cost less in the long run.

Welcome. :)

Sorry about your wanted thread - I think a few people have PMT at the moment on here.

I went the route the others are suggesting, and turbocharged a normal mini engine - they're the same really, and for your £ you could invest in a decent head and alright pistons, rather than just another A-series engine which needs a rebuild.
