*angry*

If the problems I have been having were not bad enough!!

I bought a suposedly 'genuine' engine gasket set from Minisport. Its in the exact same white box as the Minispares one, has the exact same gaskets in made from the exact same gasket materials.

Now you know the suspected reason for the bearing failure in my engine, the lack of oil pick up pipe O ring. Well, I am at the point of putting the box onto the engine, glued up all the mating faces, glued up the half moon seal, looks in the gasket box for the oil pick up pipe O ring, and can only find one O ring that might have half a chance of being the one Im after, its the right OD, but wait a minuet, its the wrong thickness *angry*

I search in my box of spares, as I know I ordered a one from Minispares seperately a while ago, and would you believe, its the fucken same!!!!!!!!!!! *angry*

The O ring kit I have doesnt have anything that will fit, and the O ring splice kit I have doesnt have the right diameter bead *angry*

So i am at a stop again, this time for the same fucken 50 pence O ring *angry*

What really takes the piss is that the cheapo gasket set you can buy at M&M's, not even close to being genuine, has the right size O ring. That means I have to buy a complete gasket set just for the O ring.

While Im here, has anyone else noticed how much thicker the engine/ box gaskets are compared to what used to be the VERY original gaskets. I had Idler gear rattle even though the idler was brand new, shimmed to the minimum clearance with new thust washers, primary gear shimmed to minimum clearance with new bushes, but it still rattled. I have never heard standard helical cut gears propperly shimmed rattle so much, its fucking anoying. With straight cut gears its something you just have to put up with.

I have thought for a long time that the clearance between the actual teeth is larger than it should be as a result of these thicker gaskets. Now to make a long story longer, as a result of having the main bearing housings line bored, the crank now sits 3 thou higher in the block. This would only add to the clearance of the primary to idler gear. I have said it in the past about just using RTV and no gasket, as long as the transfer gear teeth clearancies are reasonable. So I sat the engine on the box fitted the transfer gears, transfer housing and gasket, torqued everything up, and checked for binding. Everything turns nice and free, so I am going with out the gearbox to engine gaskets in an effort to reduce the transfer gear rattle.

So, as it stands, the 'genuine' gasket sets have a transfer case gasket that is thicker, engine to gearbox gaskets that are thicker and an oil pick up pipe O ring that is thinner.

Its not rocket science is it

Rant over, but im still pissed!!!!!!

Man, i feel your pain!

i have started ordering gaskets (and seals) individually, mini spares for one does some gaskets that appear to be uprated, like the filter housing and diff flange gaskets with impregnated "goo" pockets. also buying them individualy can work out cheaper, plus it pisses the staff of lol.

Yes,

Timing chain plate to block, requiring loads of extra shims behind the bottom sprocket (no pun).

Transfer housing leaving to big a clearance on the idler,

The worst one, diff output flanges to the extent I couldn't find enough shims to preload the carrier bearings correctly - I finally sourced a set of genuine Rover sideplate gaskets which were the required thin-ness.

And now it turns out my BK450 (luckily not yet fitted) is also crap......

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Sproket,

if anyone has the dimensions for this seal I will look through our seal kits and stick one in the post with extreme haste!

Or are the dimensios 3/4" x 1" by 1/8" the figures Irequire? As in the link.

Thanks, but I went and bought a complete cheapo gasket set just for the O ring. Its the right size*happy*

The actual dimention of this O ring is 3.5mm thick, by aprox 19mm, by aprox 25mm.

The closest British standard Oring is BS210N70 18.64 x 3.53 (IDxCross section) and are 12 pence each *laughing* http://www.polymax.co.uk/acatalog/NBR_O-Ri...01_-_BS284.html

Polymax is who I used to buy the O rings to build my injection manifold - strangley I nearly bought a bag of these (g'box to block) to make up the minimum order value, but opted instead for a bag of the size that goes at the base of a dizzy drive (another one never in the kits) as I didn't have a spare for my phase sensor.

So I now have a bag of 19 spare that fits the bottom of a dizzy !!!
