i've been a member for a while, but haven't posted much.
so, to introduce myself, i'm Alistair, 19 and am at loughborough university studying auotomotive engineering.

as soon as i get home for summer i'm going to be getting stuck in with my mini project.

a picture of how it currently stands:

except the front subframe is now removed.

i am hoping to compete with it in the future, most probably hillclimb.

any help and advice along the way would be much appreciated.
cheers.

The more of us hillclimbing the better. Can I direct you here www.hillclimbandcprint.co.uk a great national club for begginers and seasoned racers.

Looks like a good starting point with the shell.

jimster - thanks, really like your turbo build mate.

today i have:
chopped of the front end
lightened both doors

pictures up later.

i'm currently decided on what colour to have the car painted.
my wheels have black centres, so i was thinking of having the roof black to match.
i want the main colour to be a mk1 colour. does anybody have a list of mk1 colours?

Thats gulf stream, the orange on the front goes over the bonnet to line up with the rest of the body. Try searching for gulf stream gt40. Very cool paintjobs.

oh right, i though you meant gulf stream was the name of an original mini colour.

i've seen some gulf racing coloured mini's, but i'm going for a mk1 colour.

i've uncovered some problems with the shell:
scuttle panel is gone
off-side inner wing has rusted through at the top shock mount - found when i removed the shock mount

can you get full new inner wings? or is it game over for the shell?

Minispares etc all sell pretty much any panel to rebuild any late shell. Inner wings are no bother. same for the scuttle.

If it's not a big hole, cut it out and patch it. much much cheeper

i will try and get a picture but it is in the middle of the top shock mount, so i don't think patching will be an option.

minispares here i come.

ok, it's been a while since i updated.

the shell now has:
new front inner wings incl. a-panels
new full scuttle
new interior x-member
strengthening plate around steering rack mounts

next on the list:
more strengthening
diet
fit & modify cage
fettle grp front
prep for paint

pictures soon.

i'm planning on fitting a grp roof skin. how much of the metal skin can i cut out? i presume the grp skin is bonded on using tiger seal or similar?

looking into coilovers all-round, is the tdk rear beam any good?

decided on a blue Mk1 colour, think it will go well with the black bits (roof, wheel centres and maybe arches) unsure of which one yet though.

Almond green never really looks gleaming, no matter how much you clean the car... You just don't get much depth to the paint. IMO..

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
