Matt what's the deal on importing old cars into oz? Some good friends of ours have just emigrated to Brisi and it set me thinking.

The head wont fit like it is. The SC lower height cam cover might go under, but a bulge will still be needed over the cam belt.

This is (the beginnings of) mine

Note That this a mock-up only. Final version wont be made from ply-wood!

Don't bother, go the other way and get one of these:

I think you need to own the car in your country for a year before being allowed to import it with you when you come over,,, personal imports have different rules to just simply buying one from over there & bringing it in here for the sake of it,,, you need to show proof of ownership & also proof that you`re actually moving here, or something along those lines

& well, i havn`t started a twinky conversion on it yet, just my stoopid thoughts taking over direction of my life *smiley*

I probably shouldn`t muck around with the body work on our marcos but looks like i only need to make up a new bonnett & all should be good

Mat have you cut any other part of the body to fit your twinky in or just the bonnett??

Oh & yeah the good old V8 Torana Hatch is a legend car,,, i can probably buy one here for you & send it over *smiley*

Oh,,, & if anyone can help,,, our marcos needs a new windscreen & i`m tossing up on having one made here or just buying one from England & having it sent over,,, but they quoted me similar amount for the cost of the packaging as the windscreen costs & then the same again (more actually) for freight, effectively making the screen cost nearly $1800

anyone feel like buying a screen for me & packing up it all nice & safe & sending it over to me for a big bottle of Jim beam & lots of hugs & kisses ??? *smiley* Or what about a swap for a genuine old skool Speedwell taco in it`s correct bracket/housing & a big bottle of Jim Beam & lots of hugs & kisses???

never mind the p1800, check out that MX5 PMSL.

Matt,

I reckon your style twinky turbo ex manifold should go in with no bulkhead mods as it puts the turbo where the carb would have been, you may have to use a smallish turbo though to get the bonet closed, or just kick the back of the bonnet up an inch....

at the front IIRC thres quite a lot of room albeit low down, if you put a 45 deg bend on to the runners i think the plenum would fit ok, dunno where the alternator would go though!

the main prob is those damn pulleys....
if it were a racer i'd say just cut round them lol, if the back of the bonet was spaced up the issue might be less of a problem..

Only need the bonnet bulge... Its gonna be close, but it should fit. Ive made the bonnet full length too, but thats because Im running an N/A setup, and I didn't want water straight into the engine!
Once painted, Im not looking forward to dropping in the hole tho. It may be easier to build the engine on the subby, and then lower the car onto it!

ok,,, i said i`d let you all know about my "possible" aquisition & now it`s official,,, i have purchased my dad`s Marcos *smiley* yay!!!!!!!!

well i`m now quite broke & i`ll be selling off some stuff that i don`t really need just to cut the loan down to a reasonable level *frown* But it`s mine,,, i`m now the proud owner of a Monaco fastback """&&&""" a Mini marcos GT *smiley*

I don`t think i`ll be shoving a twinky in it tho,,, that bonnet of Flos is just turned me right off ,,, think i`ll shove my 1510cc 5port donk in it, but anyways,,, it`s done *smiley* so there you go... ok so it`s not that amazing but still i`m tickled *smiley*

very nice!

i really have a hardon for the green one though! I'd love to whack my 7 port set up in that, I reckon it would be unbelivably quick!

I have to agree. Mini Marcos'ss's are 'two faces'. That is sometime look awsome, sometimes a bit gay.

Black one on 13s is ace, classic one on 10s is a bit ginger beer.

I reckon they`re "pretty Butt Ugly" ,,,

i used to be pretty indecisive, butt now i`m just not quite sure *smiley*

I bought the dam thing tho,,, it was my dad`s (for the last be-squillion years) & now it`s mine so i have to work my arse off to pay the loan off *frown*

& I`d like it to look more like the dark green one sometime in the near future,,, after i`ve worked my arse off to pay off the loan for the dam thing tho

did i mention the loan i took out for it ??? *frown*

One would have expected him to just give me the dam thing hey? Butt no,,, he actually wanted money for it *smiley*

Butt still *smiley*

Heres one with a long cam KAD crowned engine.....

I reckon one could look alright with the right modded bonnet.

...and heres one on a Midas (similar profile to Marcos). Just some ideas that might be of use.

Cheers,

David

yeah thanks David,,, i`m not a big fan of the bonnet on the blue one,,, maybe something like the bonnet on the aussie Torana in the pic early on in the thread

I`m very keen to have it look more like the green Marcos at the start of this thread, it is really horny looking & tough at the same time,,, problem is that i need to convince both the familly & the friends that it`s a wise decision to do so,,, they`re all trying to tell me to keep it original & paint it the bland blue that it originally was,,,& i`m in 2 minds with all that,,, i`d love the get it back to original , but i want that hot tough looking green with big wheels too..,. maybe i need to buy another one yeah?

Maybe I,m throwing a cat among the pigeons, but I think the Cox GTM beats the Marcos for looks any day and the long lamented Unipower GT was the best of all the rear/mid mini engined cars.
