So after the weekends fun, not, I'm looking into getting a AFR meter, mainly so i can diagnose problems and get the most out of the car.

I've been looking at the innovate lm-1 basic kit.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Innovate-LM-1-Basic-...83|293:1|294:50

Is this all i need? They mention something about rpm input. Can i just take a pulse out from the ecu and put that into an input?

As for data logging i take it i can do that through the laptop?

cheers

I use the LM-1, together with an LC-1.

You need an extra box of tricks to convert the rpm signal. I used the LMA-3 to do the rpm and also provide a MAP signal for datalogging. However, my LMA-3 broke last week after being in the car for about eighteen months. They do a simpler rpm input converter if you just want revs.

For datalogging you can daisy chain all the Innovate stuff together and connect it to a laptop.

If you want to log rpm aswell try looking at the lm2, the lm1 is a good bit of kit but is more designed to be portable rather than permanently in the car.

I kind of just wanted something that i could spend £200 and get data, monitor in the car and then log it to look after. I don't mind have the laptop with me, but wouldn't mind a kind of all in one scenario.

Paul do i really need an lc1 if i have an lm1? Where did you get all yours from? Does the lm-2 have the rpm built in? I like the idea of map in there two though.

TechEdge for me.

I haven't proven this yet, but I think the logging software, and the fact you don't have to daisy chain the units makes it more flexible.

However, my choice was based very specifically on the needs for my Megasquirt, the TechEdge software will read the Megasquirt too and log everything as one.

So you can have RPM from the Megasquirt or as a direct input to the TechEdge wideband controller(s).

The TechEdge wideband controllers accept several other inputs apart from the O2 sensor.

If you get the lm1 or lm2 you won't need the lc1.

We are only using both because we are logging inner and outer cylinders separately.

I want to get another TechEdge kit for the Miglia, but Sturgeo refuses to build another one as it was so difficult :(

So we will get another LC-1 or two.

How about the VEMS gauge. Can that do what you need?

EDIT: VEMS gauge:

It says it can do rpm, but may need additional hardware.

I'd go on the innovate forums and check that they 'fixed' the LM2 before buying. The first versions of this lost Innovate a LOT of respect and future business. Don't know if the issues are fixed yet however.

ok....so if i brought this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Innovate-DB-Red-LED-...89|293:1|294:50

I could then plug it into my laptop and do the logging from there? But how do i get the rpm signal into the logs? I guess i have to buy the lma-2 or lma-3? Unless my omex can take the AFR signal in and i can look at the whole lot in the omex software? Correct?

Bat does the VEMS gauge. Looks ideal for you.

Yes, it gets expensive if you have to get the Innovate add on bits.

I would look to se if you can pick up the rpm and MAP from the Omex. We are now getting those signals from the Megasquirt.

What an excuse !!!!

I built two, and two display display units, no problem (apart from a design fault on the PCB which I found and they admitted to).

All four units work fine, they are no more difficult to build than a Megasquirt :)

But you don't have to build them, they are sold ready assembled too, there is an Agent in the UK but you will get a better price importing from Aus.

Seriously, worth looking at their website and comparing the specifications to the Innovate kit.

I have the vems gauge,

I like it.

if you hasve megajoult you could conect it to that and log afr using the jolt software

Many people like the AEM stuff....Or PLX as easy to use.

Haltech also have a new wideband kit out.

And NGK's own is quite popular the NGK Powerdex

Its not only the LM-2 that lost Innvoate a lot of support...the list of troublesome LC-1's wont have done any good at all.

Is this on the very latest version, or do the old ones do it as well?

I think the Lm2 keeps having software updates and they are getting to the bottom of it. A friend of mine uses one and he had problems getting a smooth signal from the rpm input but he has made up some sort of circuit which has sorted it.

I like the innovate kit i use the lm1 but have it in my car all the time. The next job is to fit the rpm converter and fit a map sensor as the rpm converter has aux inputs as well.

Stef you can log runs using the laptop the disc included will have the software.

If you decide to get an AEM, buy it from the States, much cheaper.
